To be Iowa's preferred furniture store by providing exceptional experiences for our customers and team members.
You
You are an essential part of the team as a selector and creator of the product available to provide a positive overall customer experience.You are responsible for connecting with the customer and learning their needs to maintain the superior customer experience.You are preparing the Sales Specialists on product information to ensure the customers' needs are being met.You are part of the retail and corporate area that fosters a team environment including educating on product knowledge and options.
You take initiative, have strong assessment skills, provide feedback for your team and are adaptable to the ebbs and flows of the day-to-day business. You work closely with the Sales team and Marketing/Ecommerce by providing coaching on new product, customer experiences and business needs.
Position Summary
Increase sales and profitability of assigned specific product categories through correct product selection, display, price, and promotion for assigned location(s).Be committed to meeting Homemakers objectives and requirements pertaining to the buying and flow of goods. Possess a high level of professionalism and communication skills with various internal Departments and Vendor partnerships alike.
Day in the life as a Buyer
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with vendors while negotiating the best price to maintain profit margins while offering the customer the best value.
  • Ensure invoices from vendors match and we are being billed properly, in accordance with the vendor agreement.
  • Complete and ensure compliance with the vendor agreements and requirements.
  • Ensure merchandise unit sales are achieved to be consistent with the rest of the category.
  • Ensure department line up plan reflects the company business plan and aim.
  • Maintain in-stock levels of running line products through ordering strategically.
  • Proactively plan seasonal décor ordering and fulfillment for themed hits on the showroom floor.
  • Transfer product to display on the showroom floor, grab & go accessory area and clearance department.
  • Collaborate with Floor Stock, Accessory Prep Team and Designers to ensure product is displayed properly and gain insights.
  • Stay up to date on trending design & décor. Continue to seek and research new vendors and product.
  • Conduct visits to competition stores and websites in order to analyze and evaluate product direction, pricing and to gain insight or ideas.
  • Walk the showroom floor regularly to confirm the product is properly placed & displayed.
  • Engage with and help customers on the floor when assistance is needed.
  • Actively participate in the monthly walk-thru with personnel from NFM.
  • Communicate effectively with Buyers Assistants, regarding tagging, sales, ads, purchase orders, quantities, fuse attributes and photo information for website.
  • Communicate with the Marketing and Advertising Department to develop and execute a competitive sales promotion strategy.
  • Review freight rates with the Homemakers Freight Coordinator to ensure the best rate and make retail adjustments accordingly.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding efficiencies, safety and productivity.
  • Follow all operational and safety procedures.
  • The above responsibilities and additional duties may vary as assigned.

Education/Work Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, Management or related area preferred
  • 1-2 years buying experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to travel to market biannually and as needed
  • Work Monday - Friday and/or to fulfill business needs
  • Ability to work during store hours around popular holidays
  • Working knowledge of preparing, reading and comprehending reports to make decisions
  • Be a self-starter & always be looking for ways to better your categories & the company
  • Ability to negotiate in high pressure environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)
  • Strong problem solving and reasoning ability
  • Good interpersonal & collaborative skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, organize, and multi-task
