Like most organizations, newly hired employees start at entry-level positions. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, these positions are in corrections, patrol, communications, and clerical fields.
In order to be considered for employment, certain minimum requirements must be met. To be hired, applicants must be:
- at least 19 years old
- have a high school or equivalent diploma
- must reside in Ascension Parish
- must be a registered voter in Ascension Parish
Other factors which strongly influence the employment process are previous work experience, previous law enforcement experience, two years or more of college education, a clear driving record, no history of prior criminal activity, and a responsible credit history.
SUMMARY
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Updates and maintains employee demographics including salary information pertaining to transfers, promotions, and annual pay rate changes- Serves as primary back-up to Senior Payroll Specialist
- Assist with payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
- Processes court subpoenas for deputy witness fees
- Assist in reviewing employee payroll information entered by Human Resources department for accuracy and compliance with all applicable laws
- Compile payroll data from time sheets and other records
- Seeks supervisory approval on any time sheet discrepancies
- Assist in entering and maintaining employee information in leave/timekeeping & payroll software
- Answers inquiries related to payroll activities
- Assist in complying with court orders involving garnishments
- Assist in responding to requests for verifications of employment
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including members of the general public, staff, and external auditors. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to assure the confidentiality of employee financial records.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service and work processes. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the processing of separation pay for retirees and terminated employees
- Other duties as assigned by a supervisor
