University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine) is the region's largest and most comprehensive multi-specialty physician group practice. The CU Medicine team delivers business operations, revenue cycle and administrative services to support the patients of over 3,500 University of Colorado School of Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers. These providers bring their unparalleled expertise at the forefront of medicine to deliver trusted, compassionate health care services at primary and specialty care clinics as well as facilities operated by affiliate hospitals of the University of Colorado.
Due to the nature of this role, we will only consider candidates who currently reside in Colorado or those with firm plans to relocate to Colorado.
This job offers a primarily remote work structure with on-site work required as dictated by the needs of the job.
We are seeking a highly motivated Payroll & Leave Specialist to join our Human Resources team.
The Payroll & Leave Specialist will support all activities related to preparing and processing the organization's monthly payroll. In addition, the individual in this position will administer and manage all transactional activities tied to work-related leave including, but not limited to, FMLA, ADA, HFWA, FAMLI and Worker's Compensation, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations. May also serve as backup regarding all benefits-related issues as/if needed.
Responsibilities include:
Payroll & Benefits Support-

  • Process monthly payroll for approximately 600 CU Medicine employees, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Serve as primary liaison for all payroll and time keeping-related questions from both staff and management.
  • Provide training to supervisors and managers on timecard review and approval, offering ongoing education as needed.
  • Perform daily HRIS administration (Dayforce) which includes updating data, reviewing/approving changes, troubleshooting access issues, and educating management as needed.
  • Collect and upload necessary information to support leaves of absence.
  • Process garnishments as needed.

Leave Management-
  • Perform ongoing case management of all requests tied employment-related leave (i.e. FMLA, ADA, HFWA, FAMLI, Worker's Compensation, etc.).
  • Demonstrate expertise and ensure compliance in areas of HR legislation including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and Worker's Compensation.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all leave and disability inquiries which includes reviewing all requests to determine eligibility.
  • Provide regular education and communication to employees and management to ensure understanding of and compliance with all applicable guidelines, policies and laws related to leave.
  • Work with employees to ensure all relevant medical documentation is completed and submitted for timely review.
  • Communicate recommendations and decisions regarding approval of leave and/or workplace accommodations.
  • Monitor leave use for compliance and abuse, and ensure time is tracked appropriately on timecards.
  • Ensure proper tracking of all ADA/ADAAA requests both granted and denied.

General Support-
  • Present at new hire orientation (generally twice per month), providing an introduction to Dayforce, retirement programs, payroll guidelines, timekeeping basics, and safety information.
  • Oversee the organization's Worker's Compensation program and partner with carrier to manage all claims from beginning to end.

Requires 2+ years of relevant Human Resources experience, including payroll processing. Bachelor's degree is highly preferred; PHR, SHRM-CP or other HR-related certification is a plus. Knowledge of current employment laws including, but not limited to, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, HFWA, FAMLI and worker's compensation is necessary. Must demonstrate high level competency around payroll processes and related laws. Experience with Dayforce or other large scale HRIS is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft products including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher or similar is required. Exceptional verbal communication skills are critical. Written communications are expected to be well-prepared and error-free ensuring accurate spelling and appropriate grammar at all times. The ability to effectively convey difficult/sensitive information and remain calm and composed during emotional conversations is essential to success. The ideal candidate will maintain professional business relationships, build trust and exercise influence at all levels of the organization. Must effectively prioritize workload in a demanding, time sensitive environment. The ability to maintain confidentiality is paramount.

The listed pay range (or hiring rate) represents CU Medicine's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting and is based on evaluation of competitive market data.
A variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, and education will be considered when determining the final offer.
