About the role:

The Bilingual Patient Support Specialist is responsible for responding to patient inquiries regarding insurance benefits, patient responsibility, insurance updates, payment plans, eligibility and claims in a confidential, professional, and ethical manner. Communication to patients must be
timely and documented in Athena.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle Spanish-speaking patient calls across Advantia practices.
  • Respond to patient questions via telephone, e-mail, and written correspondence regarding insurance benefits, provider contracts, patient responsibility, eligibility and claims in a confidential, professional, and ethical manner.
  • Resolve patient issues and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Establish payments plans as requested.
  • Document Athena with clear, concise and thorough notes.
  • Respond to patient calls/requests within 48 hours of initial request.
  • Research and analyze data to address operational challenges and customer service issues.
  • Report any trends to management.
  • Provide patients with requested information, including those that are difficult and upset.
  • Work Collection agency inquiries and referrals.
  • Assist with other billing/collection duties, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of Athena, EMR system experience.
  • At least 1 year of OB/GYN billing experience.
  • Solid understanding of health insurance plans, billing functions, and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent customer service, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Ability to achieve team goals while demonstrating organizational values and utilizing resources responsibly.
  • Proficient computer skills; working knowledge of billing software and/or electronic medical record.
  • Competent in written and verbal communication, as well as interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Be accountable, when you uncover an issue or trend, assess and report what is happening in terms of impact, making improvements, and course correcting along the way.
