General Summary:
The Third ShiftService Coordinator is a pivotal part of the Interfaith Shelter team! If you are a self-starter, a night owl, and have a heart to invest and care for those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, this role could be for you. It will give you the opportunity to be hands on in supporting individuals and families by setting the tone and atmosphere through each interaction and task you do. We are currently seeking a Third ShiftService Coordinator (Part Time). Position offers competitive pay, based on experience, along with Part Time benefits. Availability for covering additional shifts on first and/or second shift as well would be helpful, but not required.
Essential Functions:
- Model the mission and core values of the Jackson Interfaith Shelter.
- Serve as the first point of contact for individuals and families seeking shelter; conduct diversion, initial screening and intake process.
- Maintain and promote a cooperative, collaborative environment in alignment with the philosophy and policies of JIS.
- Model excellent customer service; receive shelter phone calls; greet guests; complete proper documentation of incidents, attendance, and services provided; and model a positive attitude to all staff, clients and volunteers.
- Make the breakfast meal for clients and community members, which involves helping within the kitchen and pre- and post-meal set-up.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records, files, correspondence, and incident reports.
- Build and maintain healthy, productive professional relationships with clients and safeguard client confidentiality, per the Homeless Management Information System requirements.
- Facilitate and model for client’s positive interactions including problem solving, mediation, crisis intervention, and de-escalation.
- Ensure compliance with all shelter policies to maintain a positive living environment for all.
- Attend regular staff meetings and represent Jackson Interfaith Shelter in a positive way.
- Attend and complete trainings required by Jackson Interfaith Shelter (HMIS, CPR & First Aid, food safety, de-escalation, Adverse Childhood Experiences, etc.).
- Assist with the daily upkeep of the facility to ensure a welcoming, clean and safe environment. Ensure regular cleaning and preparation schedules are maintained by utilizing the shift checklist.
- Maintain thorough records and receipts of all monetary and in-kind donations.
- Assign and facilitate daily duties for clients, and community service workers, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Helpful Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required, college experience preferred
- Understanding of mental health related issues, substance use disorders, and domestic violence
- Understanding or history of work with persons experiencing homelessness
- Experience working within a 24/7 human services program (e.g. Homeless Shelter, Domestic Violence Shelter, or Residential Treatment Program)
- Knowledge of community resources in Jackson County, Michigan
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Ladder climbing
- Lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance
- Bending, reaching performing repetitive motions
- Standing and walking for up to 8 hours
