Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center - Cole Engineering Center Podium, three times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business. The Role:
As an Over the Air Vehicle System Engineer (OTA VSE), you will be responsible for the End-to-End OTA deployment strategy for a launching program. Over-the-Air (OTA) programming is a complex feature that relies on strong multi-functional team process. The individual in this role will be responsible for developing a plan and driving the execution of OTA deployment into specific projects aligned with the global vehicle development process. You will take charge of multi-functional team activities to deliver updated software content to engineering development, preproduction, and production vehicles. Other key initiatives include process improvement, efficiency gains including proficiency around the use of growing OTA capabilities. You should also possess a mixture of strong project management, communication, interpersonal, and technical skills. Having the ability to manage projects across the development lifecycle with a strong focus on process maturity, risk management and closed-loop-learning will also be required. To thrive in an ambiguous or fast-paced environment, you must have a proven track record of multitasking, root cause analysis of complex issues, driving results, collaborating across all functions, and influencing others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute OTA Readiness Plan to ensure vehicle launch and OTA capabilities prior vehicle launch
- Understand implementation project timelines and vehicle program rollout timing
- Develop, design, and create the different payloads/campaigns to deliver a VeSCoM and monitor the performance
- Design and create dashboards to monitor the delivery status by optimizing complicated SQL statements in relational database and big data platform (HIVE)
- Drive resolution of all issues surfaced during development process that lack a natural owner or require multi-functional coordination
- End to End ownership of OTA deployment method by coordinating with SW VSE, SIT, PQM, PEMs to ensure a successful delivery of a VeSCoM for Capture Test Fleet and Customers
- Understand core strategies, feature requirements, UX requirements and operational process requirements for OTA programming
- Lead multi-functional effort of Product Development, Aftersales Engineering, Customer Experience, and other resources who support software updates, from project inception, validation, approval process through delivery.
- Collaborate with the System Integration Team (SIT) organization to develop and execute a comprehensive integration plan to ensure robust field performance
- Drive formal closed-loop-learning for issues identified during update campaigns back to natural owners to ensure long-term corrective action
- Define/Refine robust scalable processes and formally document for consumption by multi-functional team members as well as new team members
- Travel as the need arises to fulfill responsibilities < 5%
Additional Description
Required Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent experience within the automotive industry or engineering.
- 2+ years of engineering experience
- SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases and big data platform like Hive
- Working knowledge and experience in OTA update and vehicle connectivity technologies
- High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and ability to identify and remove roadblocks
- Proactive / results driven individual with high level of initiative and individual accountability
- Prior experience in leading multi-functional teams with strong collaboration skills
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills
- Proven track record to summarize concise project status and focus leadership attention on key issues
Preferred Skills & Abilities:
- 3+ years of experience in Automotive Electrical Systems and/or vehicle programming
- Experience working within a structured Systems Engineering environment that included formal Requirements Engineering, Change Management, and Configuration Management processes and tools.
- Knowledge of GM business processes, systems, and tools (Engineering Change Management (ECM), Soft Part Release (SPR), Problem Resolution and Tracking System (PRTS), Vehicle Service Management System (VSMSOTA), GlobalSIM (GSIM), Remote Reflash Test Tool (R2T2), Global Softpart Authoring System (GSPAS), Vehicle Control Application Management (VCAM), Vehicle Spy or CANalyzer)
- Knowledge of DFSS principles and continuous improvement methodologies

- Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is : $93,400 - $149,200 Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
