Work Arrangement :
Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center, Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
Developing a strong core BOM for GM is critical as we transition to EV/AV. A Core BOM and Cross-SMT Strategy VSE plays a key role in several facets of this work in defining Corporate Common Solutions (CCC) and enabling Cross-SMT Strategy initiatives by enabling strong technical/commercial strategies across SMTs; and implementing/expanding CCC usage within or across architectures/programs. This team member works across GM's various Brands and Markets by working with key engineering, program management, design, advanced engineering, finance, and other cross-functional business partners.
The Core BOM and Cross-SMT Strategy VSE assures that components shared/reused across Programs and Architectures are executed with excellence for cost and global implementation with a minimized risk profile. This role requires the VSE to drive business case development, rigorous capital management and piece cost optimization for each project assumed. The VSE will also work with the Cross SMT Manager to develop and execute annual Cross SMT priorities and projects which focus on enabling EV/AV dominance.
This position requires a candidate that learns quickly, has work agility to changing corporate priorities, deals well with ambiguity, leads issue resolution with cross-functional partners, and keeps an attention to detail in multiple systems. Team member must proficiently manage multiple projects, be eager to solve issues across departments and teams, using latest IT tools, procedure adjustments, or other innovative techniques.
What You’ll Do:
The Core BOM and Cross-SMT Strategy VSE has the following roles & responsibilities:
Lead engineering and purchasing work to develop new common parts and refine existing strategic plan and drive completion of the associated business case impact.
Guide engineers to develop optimized and vehicle integrated system solution sets.
Work cross-functionally to build / refresh Bill of Material (BOM) strategies and reuse approaches for major subsystems.
Guide engineers to develop optimized and vehicle integrated system solution sets.
Evaluate requests for strategy changes for robust engineering and financial plans.
Coach engineers, buyers, and other stakeholders to adjust strategic plans as needed. Review with organizational leaders as needed to gain approval. Additional Cross-functional Executive Board work may be required.
Support financial alignment to corporate targets.
Escalate as needed to ensure progress.
The VSE also champions key aspects of procedures and IT tools development needed in cross-Architecture work.
Cross functional partnerships must be fully leveraged; ability to laterally influence
Support Cross-SMT Manager on annual BOM Strategy priorities and X-SMT systems-based projects
Aid in alignment efforts for component strategies to include electrification and autonomous.
Mentor / train engineers and buyers on pertinent processes & tools.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) :
Bachelor of Science Engineering, Computer Engineering or other equivalent Engineering Degree
Proficient in project management
Engineering release tools and processes experience (ECR, eSOR, TcVis)
Proficient with Power BI, SharePoint and advanced Excel
7+ years of design release and/or development experience
Strong interpersonal skills & effective cross-functional work
Strong interpersonal skills, assertive communication skills and ability to influence others to obtain business results
Natural team leader, independent and powerful collaborator
SOR Sourcing tools & processes experience (Emerge, etc)
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) :
Prior CCC experience
Power BI, SharePoint, Power Automate and other analytic/visualization tool experience
System packaging & integration skills
Experience in vehicle launch
Experience in/with Portfolio Planning or Advanced Product Engineering
Purchasing Experience
