Hybrid – This role requires the employee to be onsite an average of three days per week
The Role:
As a valued Researcher with the Research and Development team here at GM, you will innovate through next-gen ideas, suggest new project areas, and establish technical plans. Conduct research and/or experiments to collect required data and validate research ideas in developing next-gen automation and robotics technology. Write timely and high-quality research reports, external publications, and records of invention to detail new insights and research results in your area of research. You are an integral member of GM’s automation and robotics research team developing next generation automation and robotics technologies for vehicle manufacturing applications. You'll need to utilize your skills in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, etc., and manufacturing, and demonstrate knowledge and expertise in project management principles.
What You Will Do:
- Research and develop next generation automation and robotic technologies for vehicle manufacturing applications, identify technical opportunities, and generate new concepts
- Drive internal and external collaborations
- Maintain awareness of the state-of-the-art and research expertise in the areas of responsibility
- Prepare timely high quality technical reports and make presentations to ensure effective communications
- Generate intellectual property to protect new inventions in the area of responsibility
- Assist other employees in accomplishing their project goals
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities:
- 2+ years of research and development experience in automation and robotics
- Advanced experimentation skillset in automation and robotics
- PhD degree from a top-tier research institution in a science/engineering discipline such as: mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, Applied Mathematics or Physics.
- Advanced training or experience in robotics, automatic controls, mechatronics, and problem solving
- Exceptional candidates with master degree(s) and extensive industrial research/development experience will be considered.
What Will Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications):
- PhD degree with Postdoc experience in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, Applied Mathematics or Physics Engineering, or related fields
- Research experience beyond PhD. (university, research institution, or industrial research)
- Hands-on knowledge in polymer electrolytes, electrolyte additives, binders and electrode manufacturing for lithium-ion batteries
- Experience in battery cell formation process
- Good publication record
