Alpha Media in Shreveport, Louisiana is seeking an On-Air Announcer/Board-Operator to join the team. You will be responsible for operating the control board, announcing program content, and maintaining quality sound during live and pre-recorded broadcasts. The successful candidate will have a passion for radio broadcasting, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.
Responsibilities of this position may include the following:
- Operate the control board during live and pre-recorded broadcasts.
- Announce program content, including commercials, public service announcements, and station identification.
- Maintain quality sound during broadcasts by monitoring audio levels and adjusting equipment as necessary.
- Ensure that all programming and commercials air as scheduled.
- Assist with the production of on-air promotions and station imaging.
- Assist with remote broadcasts and station events as needed.
- Monitor station transmitters.
- Receive and screen incoming calls during broadcast.
- Run talk shows, play music, and commercials.
- Produce and edit audio programming segments.
- Accurately log discrepancies.
- Maintain studio equipment and logs.
- Write and post information to station websites and social media platforms.
- Report sports updates and/or news updates live on-air.
- Understand the procedures to follow in case of computer crash or loss of broadcast signal.
- Communicate with the station Content Director in the event of any concerns, issues, or problems with the broadcast.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Content Director or Market Manager.
Requirements for this position include the following:
- Knowledge of all applicable FCC rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of the EAS system and legal requirements.
- Experience in digital editing software such as Adobe Audition.
- Ability to interact with management and staff at all levels.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and handle strict deadlines.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to troubleshoot unexpected problems and fix them quickly.
- Proficient in running radio automation systems.
- Experience operating a radio control board is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and current auto insurance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preference may be given to candidates who have the above experience plus the following:
- Previous experience in commercial or non-commercial broadcast media.
- Experience operating automation systems.
- Experience running radio automation systems, such as Wide Orbit.
