As a recognized Hemophilia Treatment Center and a Center of Excellence, the Washington Institute for Coagulation d/b/a Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders (WACBD), is committed to the wellbeing of patients with an inherited bleeding disorder across the State of Washington, neighboring states, and Alaska.
Our staff is an ensemble of dedicated healthcare professionals and support personnel that are striving to ease the burden that bleeding disorders have placed upon our patients. Because of our care model we can offer a multi-disciplinary approach including exceptional nursing care and physician consultation, on-site pharmacy consultation, physical therapy services, social work, billing support to help navigate insurance issues, and a research staff working to develop and improve therapies that will allow our patients to continually improve their quality of life.
Position
We have an exceptional opportunity for a Full-Time Certified Medical Assistant / Administrative Support Coordinator to join our team. This position will split their time roughly 50/50 between MA duties in the clinic and MA duties supporting our administrative efforts.
In this position you will divide time between covering administrative duties at the front desk and supporting the clinic as a Medical Assistant working with our medical providers, nurses, and treatment specialists providing excellent care to our patients and supporting our collaborative approach to treating bleeding disorders. This position requires flexibility, attention to detail, excellent communication and customer service skills.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions:
· Applies standards of care that demonstrate success in promoting high-quality, cost effective delivery of care
· Demonstrates the ability to be self-directed and work effectively with others at all levels
· Acts as a liaison to providers, patients and staff and exhibits effective communication to maintain excellent interpersonal relationships
· Uses standardized procedures in compliance with policies and procedures
· Performs and accurately interprets patient vital signs and reports abnormalities to the Nurse Specialist and/or MD responsible for the patient
· Assists nursing and medical staff with procedures and other skills performed on patients during their clinic visit
· Prepare clinic rooms by cleaning between patients and maintaining current supplies.
· Use Universal Precautions when performing phlebotomy and handling lab specimens
· Enter patient chart information in electronic health record software as directed by the Clinical Nurse Manager
· Coordinate logistics of telemedicine clinic visits and serve as the initial point of contact for patients
· Support and provide coverage for front desk, including but not limited to schedule and greet patients; address incoming business phone calls, faxes and emails; process new patient referrals; prepare charts for clinic; ensure patients have a complete chart by uploading incoming records promptly and accurately into electronic medical record;
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· Current Washington State Medical Assistant Certification in good standing
· Maintain BLS for Healthcare Provider certification
· Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, or relative field preferred
· Minimum of one year experience in similar position
· Proficient in English language, both spoken and written
· Experience working with caregivers and families of patients with chronic illnesses
· Experience providing patient education
· Ability to maintain confidentiality per HIPAA requirements
· Proficiency and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications, facsimile machines, copiers, scanners, and database software
· Computer experience with electronic health records software and demonstrated technical skills
· Excellent organizational skills to manage many competing timetables and responsibilities
· Exhibit positive communication with patients, team members, community members, partner agencies, and stakeholders
· Required physical activities while using a laptop include frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions of hands/wrists
· Required physical activities include standing, walking, and reaching, kneeling, bending, and stooping
