Position
Are you a Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant that has a passion for engagement, training, and teaching? If so, this is a great opportunity to see the direct impact on our students who have an interest in entering the medical field.
Reporting directly to the Dean of Allied Health, this position will be responsible for providing individualized and/or group instruction for adults with a wide range of academic and career goals. This instructor will have full responsibility for teaching the one-year Medical Assistant program. Curriculum includes anatomy; physiology; basic math and math for pharmacology; principles of pharmacology; medical terminology, front/back office clinical skills; basic administrative skills; law and ethics as these subjects relate to the role of a Medical Assistant; communication; human relations; electronic medical records, professionalism; and job search. The instructor will supervise students during externships and assist students in obtaining jobs. Other professional responsibilities include: maintaining office hours at times convenient to students; serving as an ad hoc member of the program's advisory committee; serving on departmental and college committees; participating in professional improvement activities; and performing other related duties as may be assigned by the dean. This is a full-time, Tenure Track position is scheduled to commence upon hire, continuing with annual 9 month instructional year contracts, summer quarter separate. Annual salary will include a pending general wage increase as well as degree stipend. Teaching assignment may include online or hybrid courses. The annual salary is between $86,692 - $102,454.   • Contribute to the ongoing development and update of curriculum, including development and refinement of program-level and course-level outcomes and incorporation of the Washington Adult Learning Standards.
  • Maintain office hours convenient to students.
  • Participate in recruiting and job placement activities for students with varied backgrounds and career goals.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with program partners and periodically serve on the program advisory committee.
  • Serve on department and college committees and participate in events and student recruitment and job placement activities.
  • Work effectively with students from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in intuitional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • Medical Assistant with Certified Medical Assistant credentials through the Association of Medical Assistants or have a Registered Medical Assistant certification.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by Medical Assistants.
  • Must have a minimum of an associate degree in the medical field such as health sciences, applied health, or Medical Assistant. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Must be credentialed in good standing in medical assisting, by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Currently approved program directors without a credential from an accredited credentialing exam must meet that requirement within two years from the effective date of these Standards.
  • Documentation of current immunization (CDC recommendations) and health requirements within 6 months of hire date is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to work successfully with students, staff, and the community.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check upon hire and annually.
  • Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment a current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Have taken, or after initial employment begin taking, professional-technical teacher training courses.

2024 Employee Benefits Summary

Dental Coverage
Renton Technical College provides dental coverage at no monthly premium cost to the employee. Benefit eligible employees have a choice of dental plans. Options include:

Vision
Employees do not pay separate premium for vision coverage; it is covered under the medical plan. Optical service frequency and hardware (glasses, contact lenses, etc.) vary depending on type of plan selected.
Waiving Medical Coverage
If you have other medical insurance you can choose to waive medical coverage for yourself or any family member. If you have existing coverage through your spouse or domestic partner, please contact the plan directly to see how they will coordinate benefits.
If waiving medical coverage, the employee will still be covered under the dental insurance plan at no monthly premium cost.
Medical Flex Spending Accounts (FSA& LFA) & Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP)
The FSA, LFA and DCAP plans are offered by the College and the State of Washington. FSA is a PEBB sponsored benefit program that allows you to use pre-tax money in a calendar year to pay for certain out-of-pocket medical expenses and/or Child care expenses.
An FSA can save you 25 - 40% on your eligible expenses. Both plans are offered as payroll deductions.
Annual contributions in 2024 for Medical Flexible Account can be between a minimum of $120 to maximum of $3,050. As a "use it or lose it" IRC governed plan, medical expense reimbursements can be requested for employee, spouse, or their IRS eligible dependents.
