Become a Media Relations Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will live in and serve as the Media Relations lead in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, maintaining strong Media Relationships and finding and telling our great stories. You will also be responsible for social media activities related to your local area and the company and will respond to media inquiries from national, trade, regional and local electronic and print news organizations about high-profile and sensitive issues. Working with executives and other SMEs in the company, you will develop and execute strategic communications plans, assess their effectiveness and fine-tune strategies as required. In addition, you will respond to media during emergency/crisis situations (including after hours when assigned) and will serve as a Public Information Officer (PIO) during Incident Management Team activations.
A day in the life — Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!
- Serve as a key Media Relations contact/spokesperson, particularly on sensitive or high-profile issues, to national, regional and local electronic and print news organizations, as well as industry trade journals.
- Handle social media for the AOR.
- Provide media response during emergency/crisis situations. Serve as spokesperson and PIO during Incident Management Team activations.
- Handle media after-hours on rotation.
- Develop communications plans, message maps, talking points, news releases, media pitches, digital and social content, op-eds, etc.
- Monitor and report on the progress of communications plans and associated metrics, implementing midcourse corrections.
The essentials
- Seven or more years of experience in Corporate Communications within a corporate and/or agency environment or journalism.
- Experience in handling media inquiries and acting as a company spokesperson, including with broadcast media.
- Experience in communications planning and project management.
- Experience creating content across multiple platforms and channels including social media.
The preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to link communications plans and activities to business outcomes and partner across the company to deliver on the work.
- High-level strategic thinker with strong creative and problem-solving skills.
- The position requires the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment, under pressure, on multiple concurrent projects and to meet demanding deadlines.
- Experience leading others through influence and collaboration.
- Ability to interact with all levels of the company; ensure high levels of tact and diplomacy.
- Calm and focused under pressure.
- Certification as PIO under national ICS standards is not necessary, but helpful.

You should know …
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
- This position will live in and serve Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Hybrid, in-office days will be in Ventura Service Center.
