Overview of Position:

The Material Planner utilizes various planning tools, mainly MRP and Supply & Demand reports, to effectively plan raw materials and work orders required for production. This may also require the scheduling of production in some areas of the factory. The planner is expected to be familiar with electrical components, keep total inventory levels at reasonable levels and be able to research and resolve inventory discrepancies that impact the commodities they are planning.

Description of Duties/Responsibilities/Requirements:

The Material Planner reviews MRP messages for the assigned commodities and creates requisitions for the buyers. Depending on the area being planned, the planner may also need to schedule new work orders, print work orders and distribute a production schedule. A secondary responsibility is utilizing various Lean techniques to increase efficiencies and reduce waste in the area. The planner should be very knowledgeable of the parts being planned and thus is responsible to research and correct any inventory discrepancies between the JDE on-hand value and the actual on-hand amount. This position reports directly to the Materials Manger. Strong analytical skills are required for this position.

    • Reviewing of MRP messages, the answering of which creates requisitions for the buyers.
  • Scheduling of production area (if required).

  • Creation and printing of work orders for areas being planned.

  • Maintain inventory levels within predefined dollar targets.

  • Using Lean manufacturing skills to eliminate waste.

  • Researching root causes and execution of inventory adjustments to correct inventory discrepancies

Supervisory/Leadership Requirements: Directly supervises/manages/coordinates the activities of subordinate(s)’ day to day activates /transactions.

  • Requires education generally equivalent to an associate’s degree in business administration. It is desirable for the employee to possess a bachelor’s degree.

  • Requires one to three years’ experience.

  • Requires ability to understand MRP methodology.

  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Requires the ability to function as a team member and contribute to group goals.

  • Requires the ability to use a variety of office equipment such as PC, email, JDE, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, telephone, facsimile machine, photocopier, and a computer printer.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while performing duties such as moving files or records. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must occasionally wear hardhat and safety glasses while working in manufacturing areas.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate, but may be loud when working in manufacturing areas.
