The Opportunity
This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.
The Manager, EMC and Safety Compliance will lead a small team of EMC experts, serve as divisional subject matter expert on safety, EMC and radio standards, and provide leadership regarding compliance and testing.
What you’ll work on
Manage small team of EMC engineers.
Serve as EMC, Radio, Safety standards expert for R&D hardware development, working with certified lab as appropriate
Assess impact of new and changes to products with regarding regulatory compliance.
Assess impact of new and changing standards with regards to on-market and in-development products.
Lead developing compliance strategies, creating plans and executing projects for certifying on-market products to new revisions of standards
Work with R&D engineers to capture institutional knowledge and disseminate within this rapidly growing organization.
Institute and proliferate best practices
Manage anechoic chamber, ESD, and magnetic proximity test area used by multiple project teams
Required Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
8 years relevant experience with BS or 6 years relevant experience with MS
3 years experience in Medical Device or IVD product development
Preferred Qualifications
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication
Good sensibilities, good knowledge of electrical engineering principles including PCB layout and schematic design with knowledge of engineering tools including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, RF communication analyzers and Smith charts.
Good understanding of processes used in the design, documentation, and verification of medical devices or IVD.
Experience with Medical Device Safety 60601-1, Medical Device Home Use 60601-1-11, Medical Device Alarms 60601-1-8, Medical Device EMC 60601-1-2, IVD EMC 61326-2-6, IVD Safety 60601-1, 61010-2-101, Medical equipment radio disturbances 55011, transmission equipment 2.4GHz 300 328, and country specific standards.

The base pay for this position is $118,100.00 – $236,100.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
