Future SDAIHC – San Diego American Indian Health Center


 

Summary:

The Acupuncturist will provide treatment of symptoms and disorders using needles and small electrical currents. May provide massage treatment. May also provide preventive treatments.

Assist in improving the access and quality of care at SDAIHC.

 

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job-related activities as outlined below.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Primary Functions:

  1. Follows standard quality, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures and adheres to local, state and federal laws, regulations and statutes.
  2. Identifies the correct anatomical and proportional point locations based on patients’ anatomy.
  3. Treats patients using tools such as needles, cups, ear balls, seeds, pellets, and nutritional supplements.
  4. Takes precautions related to treatments such as intradermal needles, moxibustion, electricity, gua sha, and bleeding.
  5. Analyzes physical findings and medical histories to make diagnoses according to Asian medicine traditions. Maintains detailed and complete records of healthcare plans and prognoses.
  6. Formulates herbal preparations based on their herbal properties to treat conditions.
  7. Evaluates treatment outcomes and recommends new or altered treatments to promote, restore, or maintain health.
  8. Educates patients on topics such as meditation, ergonomics, stretching, exercise, nutrition, the healing process, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
  9. Keep and update patients' records.
  10. Keep abreast of new research and best practices in the field of acupuncture.
  11. Attend professional educational seminars and conferences.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be a Licensed Acupuncturist with a master’s degree or post baccalaureate certificate from an accredited school.
  2. Licensed to practice as an Acupuncturist in the State of California
  3. 2-3 years minimum acupuncturist experience required.

 Special Conditions of Employment:

 

  1. Has clean driving record and insurance as required by the state.
  2. Has reliable transportation
  3. Current BLS and CPR certification on file with the Human Resources Department.
  4. COVID-19 vaccine record on file with the Human Resources Department.

   

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  2. Ability to monitor ongoing activities in consideration of changing patient conditions.
  3. General knowledge of biology, medicine and dentistry.
  4. Strong customer and personal service perspective.
  5. Basic understanding of psychology, therapy and counseling
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of acceptable professional standards and practices
  7. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals at all levels to facilitate the physician peer review process
  8. Ability to review, summarize and analyze medical records
  9. Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, EMR,  Microsoft word and basic PC skills
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  11. Excellent time management skills
  12. Effective interpersonal skills.
  13. Able to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals, multicultural, multinational, and multiracial population.
  14. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all during the course of work.
  15. Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.

 Physical and Mental Requirements:

 

  1. Able to lift/move up to 30 pounds, move from place to place.
  2. Able to stand, bend and reach for prolonged periods.
  3. Must possess the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  4. Must have the ability to see up close with or without vision correction
  5. Ability to do math, organize and prioritize workload, work effectively and efficiently under stress
  6. Ability to supervise, multitask, understand and follow instructions
  7. Ability to proficiently read, write, speak and understand English

  3. Participate and ensures continuous quality improvement process as directed by clinic leadership.

  1. Ensures regulatory compliance and adherence with policies and procedures related to safe work practices.
  2. Participate in infection prevention through appropriate use of infection control measures during patient treatment and patient interactions
  3. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for maintaining physical spaces, equipment and supplies. 
  4. Uses all appropriate equipment and/or tools to ensure workplace safety.
  5. Immediately reports unsafe working conditions.

 Privacy/Compliance:


  1. Maintains privacy and security of all patient, employee, and volunteer information and access to such information. Such information is accessed on a need to know basis for business purposes only.
  2. Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Reports unethical, fraudulent or unlawful behavior or activity.
  3. Upholds strict ethical standards

 

 Flexibility: Available for all shifts and, when required, able to work evenings and weekends

In the spirit of pay transparency, WE are excited to share the salary range for this position.    Your final base pay will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills and experience.  We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current staff members when determining any final salary offer.  The salary ranges are the full base salary for the position.  Hiring at the maximum of the range (90th percentile) would not be typical in order to allow for future growth and development.  This position is also eligible our benefits and retirement plans.
