Description
The City of La Quinta is proud to announce a Senior Code Compliance Officer opening in the Public Safety Department. The Senior Code Compliance Officer position may be the right for you if:

Senior Code Compliance Officers are responsible for performing journey level CODE COMPLIANCE work for all assigned cases and areas. Senior Code Compliance Officers may train new staff and are assigned more technically difficult or sensitive cases, including building code issues, and conduct special CODE COMPLIANCE-related studies.
Incumbents are fully functional in performing high-volume CODE COMPLIANCE activities, including investigation, customer service, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and case documentation in support of Citywide CODE COMPLIANCE operations.
Example of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Conducts CODE COMPLIANCE investigations and inspections of difficult, complex, highly sensitive, commercial, and/or large parcel/property complex cases.
  • Conducts investigations by inspecting property or situations; meets with property owners and complainants as appropriate; documents with pictures, drawings, and notes for case file; determines if situation is a criminal violation; coordinates with law enforcement and other departments as appropriate; posts for unsafe conditions.
  • Conducts short-term rental, pool, home business, and other City required inspections.
  • Issues permits and/or citations; places liens on property as required by City regulations.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and case files on all actions and activities, including accurate and detailed information regarding code enforcement activity to substantiate violations.
  • May train staff in office and field work as assigned.
  • Performs minor animal control activities as needed, such as leash enforcement; assists animal control officers.
  • Performs specialized work and studies; provides input for work processes or code updates.
  • Prepares and presents cases and appeals to hearing officers or judges.
  • Provides professional customer service in the office, by telephone, or in the field to provide information about rules, regulations, codes, and ordinances.
  • Receives and researches complaints, history, and issues utilizing a variety of resources such as GIS, City and County systems, and websites; verifies and documents property information such as parcel numbers, legal descriptions, permitting, and addresses.
  • Performs training of new employees in work duties and procedures as assigned.
  • Utilizes applicable software, documents cases, issues notices, and violations, and tracks responses and resolution of cases.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years' experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties.
Licensing/Certifications
  • Baton Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO) Modules 1-3 Certified Code Enforcement Officer within one (1) year of employment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification with ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Pepper Spray Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • PC832 Arrest within one (1) year of employment.
  • Valid Class "C" California driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Incumbents in this position work in indoor and outdoor environments and experience exposure to heat, cold, noise, wind, dust, and other extreme weather conditions; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; and may experience threatening people, animals, or other situations.
Positions in this class typically require standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, and foot controls.
Light Physical Demands: Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The City of La Quinta employees are registered as Emergency Disaster Workers and must take an oath. In the event of a declared emergency, City employees shall initially remain at work or, if recalled, shall report to work after completing critical personal and family emergency responsibilities.
