Job Summary: The Logistics Coordinator will handle all functions related to the logistical needs of both inbound and outbound freight. This position will also be responsible for the driver hiring, equipment maintenance and DOT requirements for the privately owned fleet.
Essential Functions: Key Responsibilities of freight coordination – - Using ERP system plan, route and dispatch outbound freight on private fleet of equipment using company drivers. - Coordinate local pickups of inbound freight including returns from customers and backhauls - Hire and dispatch 3rd party logistics carriers to cover freight outside of the normal parameters of the private fleet. - Establish or update 3rd party logistics carrier rates. - Maintains radio and/or phone contact with drivers; receives and dispatches response and emergency aid when needed. - Update and provide key information to sales people. Including on time delivery, order discrepancies etc.
DOT Compliance and Safety - Monitor drivers’ working hours to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. - Maintain safety files for all drivers and equipment. Including driver qualification files. - Coordinate and assist drivers involved in accident response. - Provide leadership and communication in maintaining/improving safety with company drivers.
HR functions - With the assistance of HR – hire qualified drivers when necessary. - With HR approval administer disciplinary action to drivers when necessary Equipment maintenance - Maintain private fleet of trucks and trailers utilizing 3rd party maintenance providers. - Perform periodic inspections of fleet Other duties - Assist in day to day operational duties as needed.
3 or more years of experience in transportation management and/or safety management
