JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for overseeing the Technical Accounts (“TA”) function and upholding the vision of the group, while organizing the workload of the team to meet the expected departmental objectives. Additionally, the position will be responsible for completing the monthly financial cycle to accelerate the collection of receivables/payables, while minimizing aged debt. The Head of Technical Accounts will lead the TA team and be a point of contact for all elevated issues. Responsible for sharing team goals, coaching/mentoring, training new team members, and performance management. Will also support the management of the US Programs business from a technical back-office perspective, while ensuring alignment with the front-end Account Managers. Implement continuous improvement and new ways of working across the department as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversee and prepare, validate, and render inward (Coverholder/MGA & TPA bordereaux and settlement files) and outward (reinsurance account statements, tax, and levy) reports and settlements, ensuring they adhere to the contractual responsibilities and individual Technical Accounts.
· Ensure that client feedback is properly maintained in the system in a timely and efficient manner, while ensuring it is kept up to date and any unanswered feedback is followed up. Ensure required actions are escalated to the Account Managers.Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the key inputs into the General Ledger.
· Manage the month-end process & management reporting, as well as ad-hoc reports as needed.
· Oversee the workflow and distribution of work to the team, training for new hires, performance management, escalation etc.
· Implement and perform Quality Assurance across the TA team’s work
· Ensure the feedback received by the TA team is comprehensive and addresses all criteria, while providing dashboard users with a valuable/accurate experience.
· Participate in necessary internal and external meetings, including meetings with
Underwriters, developing client/MGA relationships, and providing expert advice to support due diligence assessments of potential programs.
· Monitor and chase debt to ensure prompt settlement of premium, to meet internal and external SLAs, and to investigate and resolve any unallocated cash.
· Process premium and claims information into company software.
· Review transactional records to identify data quality issues to be resolved. Collaborate with the necessary parties to support both immediate and long-term fixes.
· Reconcile bank accounts, bank checks, wires, and allocate cash daily.
· Identify and resolve issues where possible, escalating risks, and highlighting any settlement/MGA Client issues to appropriate department.
· Analyze submissions and our clients’ data to resolve problems and answer queries.
· Ensure all client queries / requests are appropriately logged in accordance with current procedures and to maintain appropriate records relative to all processes followed.
· Provide status reports as required to management.
· Identifying process, technology, and other automation improvements within the team and implement any approved changes to the team. · Ensure the team and department maintain compliance with any applicable UK or International statutory or regulatory obligation as required by the role. This includes but not limited to obligations arising from:
§ The prudent management of the business.
§ Placing due regard on the interests of customers.
§ Observing rules on Sanctions and financial crime.
§ Regulatory requirements and local licensing restrictions.
§ Promoting and following the Group’s whistleblowing procedures.
§ Compliance with internal controls and security.
§ Where applicable, following the Company’s Consumer Duty principles to deliver good outcomes for retail customers.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
· Excellent accounting and technical knowledge w/understanding of credit control (i.e. working practices and processes)
· Strong MS office skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint, and strong comfort level with learning new technology
· Knowledge and experience in reinsurance (quota share and excess of loss) is required
· Ability to interpret and manipulate data clearly and accurately with the ability to extract and identify trends. Strong analytical skills are required.
· Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships (internally/externally) with excellent communication skills
· Proven ability to effectively lead a team – strong leadership skills
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task effectively under tight deadlines
· Required to sit for long periods of time
· Must have ability to pivot quickly to the needs of the business
· This position operates in a professional office environment and will require use of standard office equipment (i.e., computers, phones, photocopiers/scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines)
EDUCATION
· BS or BA degree in a relevant financial/accounting field (i.e. business, finance, accounting, etc.)
EXPERIENCE
· Insurance industry experience is required
