The anticipated salary range for this role is between $129,000.00 and $185,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
The VP, KDE Onboarding specialist, is an important role reporting into the Enterprise Data Steward with the Data Governance Operations team within SMBC Americas Division. This experienced Data Management leader will drive the governance of data throughout the AD Enterprise. This collaborative candidate will also be responsible to work across ICDAD Data Management Executives, Local Data Officers, Data Stewards and Data Owners to properly govern data, ensuring consistent use throughout the organization.
He / She will lead Business Glossary projects in support of the Americas division, working with Domain Data / Business Stewards facilitating the KDEs onboarding. This will involve working with Horizontal Functional Areas (such as Compliance, HR, Risk) and subsidiaries / Group Companies Business Stewards to maintain alignment with KDE Onboarding framework & standard.
A successful candidate for this position must possess both a deep and wide background in understanding business glossaries, lineage and Data Governance.
Role Objectives

  • Utilize a third-party proprietary business glossary application as the central repository in support of the Americas Division.
  • Lead Business Glossary Forum to facilitate KDEs approval
  • Provide dates, status and percentage on completions of KDE onboarding project milestones.
  • Partner with Data Governance Platform Manager to ensure integrity of the Business Glossary
  • Identify and maintain roadmap and pipeline of candidate KDEs
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Data Domain Executives (EDME) on prioritization of KDE pipeline
  • Lead the production of monthly summary and detailed reporting on KDEs to senior management
  • Promote a Business Glossary culture across the firm (e.g. communications, training materials, knowledge cafes, etc.)
  • Facilitate lineage capture for KDEs
  • Execute KDE Framework in working closely with Enterprise Domain Management Executives and Business Data Stewards to ensure adherence to standards and guidelines in term names and definitions are captured in a Data Governance catalog.
  • Interface with data custodians in capturing technical metadata related to the business term
  • Work closely with Data Quality Managers to ensure KDEs are governed by DQ Rules across various data quality dimensions
  • Develop process improvements to increase operational efficiency
  • Ensure and develop training materials, documentation and visual queues
  • Provide Business Glossary training and presentations to key internal stakeholders/teams
  • Evaluate, propose enhancements and managing KDE definitions and attributes in our data glossary, including Authoritative Source identification
  • Provide expertise and in partnership with Technology, Data Management Executives, Data Stewards and Data Owners, document Data Lineage for all KDEs
  • Support the migration of the current business glossary to next generation platform
  • Support the legacy Business glossary cleanup to ensure proper definitions, Data Domains assignments and metadata are captured to ensure it adheres our KDE Framework.

Qualifications and Skills
  • 7+ years of specialized experience working in Financial Services
  • Must have prior experience with Business Data Glossaries, including KDE onboarding processes and an understanding of Data Governance best practices.
  • Functional Knowledge of Data Governance and Data Lineage tools, preferably Collibra
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills to build enduring and productive alliances across matrix organizations. Strong team player with excellent listening, interpersonal, facilitation, written, oral and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate concepts in both technical and user-friendly language to management, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple priorities and stakeholders under pressure
  • Proven skills in MS Office suite, MS Excel (PowerBI) and MS Project and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and proven ability to meet established deadlines with demonstrated ability successfully manage multiple priorities and stakeholders under pressure
