Summary/Objective

Under the supervision of the VP of Technology and Information Security, the IT Support Specialist-A/V is responsible for supporting and maintaining the agency’s computer systems, desktops, laptops, software, telephone, audiovisual, and multimedia systems. This position routinely handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information and will represent CEDA in various capacities. Must demonstrate good judgment, an ability to be approachable and professional, solid problem-solving skills, an ability to handle multiple tasks, an ability to be self-motivated and well organized, and maintain strict confidentiality.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in handling incoming issues to the Helpdesk and forwards to the next level of support when needed.
  • Update Helpdesk tickets in a timely fashion in the tracking software.
  • Document installation of new software and changes to procedures for existing documentation.
  • Install, diagnose, repair, maintain and upgrade all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance, including audiovisual and media production systems.
  • Safeguard the assets of the Agency
  • Support and operate, when necessary, video cameras, editing equipment, including recorders, switchers, broadcast routers, computer software editors, character generators, audio mixers, microphones, and graphics generators to produce preliminary and final video products.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of network level standards/practices, distribution practices, and related TV/internet broadcast technologies while working in the Broadcast Operations Recording facility.
  • Uses digital asset management systems/software to record issuing, turn in, and repair actions on media production gear inventory.
  • Under supervision, perform Active Directory/Office 365 and Azure Administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding AV technologies and IT systems on a technical level
  • Knowledge of administering Office 365, hardware, and networking

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and effective interpersonal and organizational skills proven in a team environment are required.
  • Working knowledge of network protocols, and general office systems including TCP/IP, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, SharePoint, Internet (Edge, Mozilla, Chrome)
  • Familiarity with graphics, encoding and video editing software
  • Experience with both Mac and Windows operating systems and software
  • Experience working with and supporting Zoom and Teams Meetings Applications including meetings management settings
  • Experience with LAN software, Mac and Windows Hardware
  • Ensuring that AV hardware and software is prepared to meet the needs of the organization
  • Offering plans and advice for live audio and video events, including broadcasts, conferences, webinars, training events, etc.
  • Operating the master controls of AV systems during events as needed
  • Conduct regular updates and upgrades to software and firmware on AV-designated equipment
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to effectively assess and evaluate technical solutions
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects and priorities.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works mainly in an office environment that is quiet to moderately loud, depending on the work area. Some local, county, or state travel may be required, including overnight stays. The employee is required to sit, use hands, stand, stoop, walk, talk, and listen while performing duties. General office equipment, including personal computers, scanners, copiers, desk- and smartphones, and software programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing/vision.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Travel

It is an administrative support level position requiring the exercise of discretion and independent judgment and is required to work a full-time work week, as designated by the CEDA Employee Handbook, with periodic longer hours, including potential evenings, weekends, and odd hours. Must be able to travel both within and out of Cook County for work assignments; automobile required. Must possess and maintain an applicable Driver License, a clean driving record, and Auto Insurance that meets the State requirement.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 2 years of IT Helpdesk experience.
  • 2 years of Customer Service experience.
  • 2 years of Audio/Visual equipment support experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working in a nonprofit setting.
  • CompTIA certification is a plus
  • Associate’s Degree in computing and digital media technology.
