Examples of upcoming projects include:


  • Implementing a new homeless management information system to help support the County’s comprehensive plan to end homelessness.
  • Managing a program of projects supporting our suite of data engineering and data governance initiatives.
  • Partnering with internal IT stakeholders to introduce and implement Scaled Agile (SAFe) within Pierce County IT.

How to be Successful in the Role:
We are looking for someone who not only understands disciplined project management principles but has applied those principles to large scale IT. We need a Project Manager who has high emotional intelligence (EI/EQ), is flexible, can work effectively with stakeholders, and is able to effectively troubleshoot while managing to the project’s scope, schedule, and budget. Experience with Scaled Agile and the SAFe Framework is desired and will contribute to the success of this position.
Your Future in this Role:
This position allows for growth inside and outside of the role. You will work with Pierce County customers across all levels of the organization from individual contributors to executive leadership which allows your business savvy to grow. This exposure will prepare you for future opportunities in IT and Pierce County.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
  • Implement innovative and efficient project management practices for IT projects.
  • Administer processes that ensures project tracking, reporting, communication, risk management and deliverables are achieved.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in strategic technology planning and implementation of custom and commercial (COTS and SaaS) systems.
  • Perform IT project management in accordance with accepted project management standards in the industry (i.e. PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge)).
  • Develop and manage work breakdown structure (WBS) for information technology projects.
  • Develop or update project plans for information technology projects including information such as project objectives, technologies, systems, information specifications, schedules, funding, and staffing.
  • Designing agile project management process to support a wide variety of technology projects integrated with governance and budgeting initiatives.
  • Manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • A Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer sciences, business, mathematics, engineering or related field.
  • Five years of information technology experience, which includes experience performing complex technology centric project management in a Project Manager or leadership role.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
  • Positions in specific program areas may require program-related experience, education, and/or training.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project management certification such as PMP is highly preferred.
