Intern - Research and Development - PA

Role and Responsibilities

• Aiding in the development of new pet food products
• Support lab-scale production of samples and serve as back-up support to the R&D Food Technologists to ship/deliver customer sample requests in a timely manner
• Prepare samples and perform sensory evaluation of products
• Support Start-Up of Micro Lab
• Develop Protocols for testing
• Help organize and maintain a sanitary R&D lab and clean work environment
• Organize supplies and ingredients needed to produce samples

Qualifications and Education Requirements

1. Must be currently pursuing a degree and remain fully enrolled in a 4-year college or university during the duration of the internship.
2. Rising Junior or Senior preferred
3. Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Food Manufacturing, Food Chemistry, Animal Science, or related field
4. Basic chemistry and statistical skills
5. Basic Micro understanding
6. Applicable experience working in a lab/food laboratory is desirable
7. Able and willing to work with raw meats and other food ingredients

Preferred Skills

1. Self-starter, works independently, takes initiative.
2. Ability to work independently in a manufacturing environment while adhering to good GMP and safety practices.
3. Flexibility: performing wide range of tasks, accepting new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments.
4. Excellent organizational and multitasking ability with strong attention to detail
5. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

The internship program at Freshpet is designed to provide students with a learning experience that will give them an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge. The student will be provided extensive hands-on opportunities with a goal of applying what has been learned during their coursework to the working environment.
