Nature of Work:

The Division of Infectious Diseases (ID) is recruiting a faculty member at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (Anschutz Medical Campus) for the role of Hospital epidemiologist and Infection Prevention and Control Physician-Scientist. This physician will have primary duties in clinical infectious diseases at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) with special interest and experience in Infection Prevention and Control (IP) and hospital epidemiology. Responsibilities will include inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases consultative services, active involvement in ID Division and UCH IP activities and programs, participation in division educational activities, development of quality improvement and research projects.

Applicants must have completed an accredited Infectious Diseases fellowship and be ABIM board eligible or board certified in Infectious Diseases. Training/experience in hospital epidemiology and infection prevention and control are beneficial.  Applicants will ideally have demonstrated aptitude for scholarly achievement. Applicants with experience in hospital epidemiology and/or an MPH in addition to MD/DO are welcome. Experience in basic, translational or clinical research in Infectious Diseases is also welcome as we seek to expand research activities around IP.

Examples of Work Performed:

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Infectious Disease Clinical Attending, inpatient and outpatient
  2. Analyzing data through qualitative and quantitative methods to drive process improvement and for publication.
  3. Publish high quality papers.
  4. Apply for grant funding.
  5. Serve on IP committees and administrative units, attend administrative and organizational meetings.
  6. Identify and investigate clusters or outbreaks of infection.
  7. Identify and analyze surgical and device-associated infections.
  8. Develop evidence-based interventions to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
  9. Evaluate methods and technologies to reduce transmission of pathogens.
  10. Develop appropriate infection prevention policies and procedures.
  11. Oversee performance of Infection prevention staff.
  12. Develop educational programs related to infection prevention  for hospital staff, faculty and trainees. 
  13. Advise senior leadership on issues related to reduction of infection risks and regulatory requirements.

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at: 

 Assistant Professors $164,000 to $220,000

Associate Professors $185,000 - $250,000 for  depending on stage of career.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Assistant Professor

  • MD or MD-PhD
