Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.
Major/Essential Functions
The Director of Research and Outreach will support the Associate Dean for Research and Outreach's work in managing the college's internal research funding and research programs, supporting external awards, and creating research opportunities for Rawls faculty and students.
- Support the Associate Dean for Research and Outreach in managing the Research and Outreach activities in the Rawls College of Business, such as drafting research newsletters, coordinating research guest speaker visits or research conferences, capturing and reporting accreditation metrics and faculty/PhD student publications, coordinating research advisory committee meetings, etc.
- Act as liaison for the college between TTU's research enterprise (Innovation Hub, Office of Research and Innovation, Office of Research Commercialization, and International Affairs), the Associate Dean for Research and Outreach, Rawls faculty, and external partners to help faculty and PhD students identify potential research resources or collaborators.
- Support faculty and PhD students in writing impactful articles, based on academic research accomplishments such as major journal publications, patents, grants, etc, for major media platforms to broaden research impact.
- Facilitate and manage Rawls college research resources, such as databases, journal lists, research grants, undergraduate research grant programs, etc.
- Assist faculty and PhD students in the grant application and post-award compliance process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree: Masters degree or above in a business-related discipline, or a closely related field, is desirable.
- Research Experience: Some experience in working in academic institutions, showing some basic understanding of research processes and methods; rich experience in academic or research-related roles, showing a good understanding of research processes and methods is preferred..
- Knowledge of Academic Environment: Familiarity with the academic environment, including understanding the needs and expectations of faculty and PhD students.
- Teamwork and Networking Skills: Excellent networking skills to foster relationships within the university, with external partners, and potential research sponsors.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for managing the research newsletter and interacting effectively with faculty and students.
- Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of compliance requirements for research activities, especially in grant post-award management.
- Grantsmanship: Experience with federal and private funding organization.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
