DEPARTMENT: HUMAN RESOURCE
DIRECT REPORTS: NO REPORTS TO: Human Resources Manager
SUMMARY: Functional activities include the following areas: daily transactional activities with the HR department, assists in employee retention, employee relations, HR hiring procedures, conducts interviews, schedules appointments, and follows all HR policies and procedures, including other administrative and compliance tasks. This position is required to handle and process confidential and sensitive information involving employee wages, benefits, and disciplinary actions and provides support in other HR functions. Also help implement safety policies. Compiles and maintains personnel records by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the HR Manager.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in Human Resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Update employee files, document personnel actions and provide information to other departments. Audits production employee files to answer inquiries and provides information to authorized personnel.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Oversees recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel and temporary employees.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality regarding personnel files, employee data and all other confidential information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree preferred, 3+ years of related experience in Human Resources, 1+ years of plant environment experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in Human Resources.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write reports and business correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, candidates and the general public. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and candidates. Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations. Ability to perform necessary calculations for completion of summary of safety data.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES: Frequent interaction and discussion with employees and supervisors. Must consult with HR Manager before making decisions beyond providing routine information to employees or supervisors.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Basic computer skills and knowledge of standard programs including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and HRIS including data entry, reporting and query procedures. Must be adaptable to change, able to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be able to effectively communicate in English including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Compose and edit memos, flyers, newsletters, and other forms of communications for employees.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Work, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to work sitting down using a computer for up to 10 hours a day with periodic breaks and must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. of office supplies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near in an office setting but may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions when on the production floor. Hearing protection and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when on the production floor. Must follow GMP's while on the production floor.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Must be available to work as scheduled.
