Job Duties
Provides HR related functions for employees at Red Onion State Prison with DOC, Federal, State and other mandated policies. Collaborates with Human Resources Officer to ensure a positive culture and effective customer service in all areas of Human Resources. Ensures accurate, efficient administration of human resource operations to include recruiting, payroll processing, benefits administration, personnel file maintenance, data entry in PageUp, Cardinal, BES and the database and assist when necessary with time/leave maintenance. Assists the Human Resource Officer in day-to-day duties and acts as an HR advocate providing employees, managers, and the public with appropriate assistance as dictated by the situation.
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 - April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Knowledge of general HR policies and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, or DOC policies and procedures related to Human Resources including FLSA, FMLA, VSDP, ADA, and Worker's Compensation. Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and G-Mail. Skilled in record and file management systems. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to all levels of management, employees and general public. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Knowledge of Department of Corrections (DOC) policies and procedures.
Additional Considerations
Experience in office administration or equivalent training or experience in a related field. Experience in administration, preferably in HR environment. Experience in Correctional and/or alternative setting.
