POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Office Assistant/Health Room Paraprofessional (Part-Time)
DEPARTMENT: The Classical Academy High School
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Year: 184 Days (Academic Year)
SALARY: $15.05 Per Hour
HOURS:7:30 am to 11:30 am
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
- Performs clerical and administrative duties in support of the school
- Provides basic health care and first aid to students
- Gives support to parents, teachers, and students in an effort to aid in personal and educational development of each student
- Acts as the initial contact for all incoming visitors.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
- Reports directly to the office manager
- Reports indirectly to the high school principal and school nurse

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains responsibility for the operations of the school office
- Performs duties of the health room paraprofessional including giving minor first aid, technical physical care, and dispensing medication (according to District Policy) under the authority of the school nurse
- Follows established procedures regarding notification of student illness/injury as identified by TCA policies and procedures
- Participates in Emergency Crisis Team as a first responder
- Maintains a complete set of accurate and timely student records (cum files) containing data such as grades, names, addresses, telephone numbers, immunization history, correspondence, etc.
- Updates records on computer, including immunizations, medical alert and emergency cards
- Maintains computerized attendance system and contacts parents regarding absences
- Assists students, parents, other TCA staff, and visitors as needed
- Answers telephone, provides information to callers, takes messages, forwards phone calls as appropriate, greets visitors to building, and provides information and direction
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Confers with the school nurse regarding students' absences for health reasons (communicable diseases, injury, hospitalizations, etc.)
- Contacts the parent of ill or injured students in accordance with established health office policy and, if necessary, prepares the student to go home
- Keeps the health office clean and orderly
- Participates in ordering and maintaining first aid supplies
- Performs routine word processing activities related to school functions
- Maintains various databases and reports
- Sets up and files a variety of documents, to include sensitive and confidential information as directed by the office manager
- Maintains office filing system to include sensitive and confidential information
- Develops and maintains required reports
- Opens and distributes mail as directed by the office manager
- Maintains accurate lunch rosters
- Collects miscellaneous payments
- Performs a variety of duties using various types of office equipment
- Provides back up assistance to other office staff
- Assists office manager in the management and distribution of office supplies for school, following procedures outlined by the accounting department
- Tracks staff birthdays for principals, arranging for food set up in the office and communicating to those involved
- Performs other duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school graduate or GED equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Experience performing duties similar to those performed in an educational setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of basic office methods and procedures, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- General knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and procedures related to The Classical Academy operations and functions
- Must possess certification or become certified in First Aid, Medication Administration, CPR, and Universal Precautions
- Ability to give minor first aid to the sick and injured
- Ability to dispense medication according to District policy
- Considerable knowledge of computer equipment and related software
- Must be able to type a minimum of 45 words per minute
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to provide a warm and caring attitude toward students
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to prepare correspondence on routine matters
- Knowledge of record keeping and filing techniques
- Ability to perform routine office management skills independently
- Ability to maintain accurate filing system and related files

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is generally performed within a standard office environment
- Work is performed in a health office setting. May need to perform first aid at any location on campus
- Incumbent is required to work normal business hours

- Spend majority of work hours sitting and occasionally stand or walk while performing job duties
- Occasionally lift burdens weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Frequently use eye, hand, and finger coordination to enable the use of a computer, other office equipment, and writing utensils
