ABOUT PUBLIC COUNSEL
Public Counsel is the largest pro bono public interest law firm in the country. Founded in 1970, it is dedicated to advancing equal justice under law and addressing economic, racial, social, and other inequities by delivering free legal and social services to the most vulnerable members of our community. Public Counsel operates eight legal projects: Children's Rights, Community Development, Consumer Rights & Economic Justice, Homelessness Prevention, Immigrants' Rights, Veterans' Rights, the Audrey Irmas Project for Women & Girls' Rights, and our impact litigation project, Opportunity Under Law.

ABOUT HUMAN RESOURCES
At Public Counsel the Human Resources department is tasked with interpreting city, state, and federal guidance for our growing workforce. Other Human Resources responsibilities include oversight over compensation strategy, benefits, recruitment and retention, employee engagement, performance management, and many other responsibilities.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Associate HR Manager, the HR Specialist will;
- Support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department;
- Support recruiting efforts by posting job openings, disseminating to several job boards, and researching other recruitment platforms;
- Assist with the onboarding process of all new hires;
- Responsible for file maintenance and auditing files (including personnel and I-9 files);
- Support HR team with creating reports as well as assist with audits;
- Handle benefits administration including; enrollments, terminations, processing changes, and reviewing monthly invoices for accuracy;
- Assist with updating and maintaining HRIS system (Paylocity) and other HR-related systems;
- Assist with company recognition programs, events, and celebrations;
- Provide coverage for the reception desk when needed;
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred but will consider relevant HR experience;
- Previous work experience and working knowledge in an HR position;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Detail-oriented, outstanding organizational skills, and ability to multitask;
- Ability to handle sensitive information and matters, and maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment - while being flexible, adaptable and demonstrating an ability to problem solve;
- Ability to work both independently and in teams;
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds; and
- Commitment to gender/racial/social justice and the mission of Public Counsel.

- Salary Range: The annual salary range for this position is $55,000 - $62,000.

Public Counsel requires vaccination against COVID-19 for all employees, including new hires . Public Counsel is generally office-based, but remote work has been permitted during the pandemic. As of June 6, 2022, all employees with Public Counsel will be required to work in the office at least one day per week, at the discretion of the head of department.
