Job Title: Human Resources Generalist
Job Classification: Exempt, 1.0 FTE, 35 hours/week
Position Reports To: Director of People and Culture
Compensation: Starting at $71,340 - $78,475, DOE. Benefits eligible (See Compensation)
Location: Seattle, WA, hybrid.
This position requires on-site presence at least 2 days per week at a confidential Seattle location, and sometimes more. This position is not fully remote.

The Human Resources Generalist will ensure the agency’s HR operations will run smoothly and effectively. Having an understanding of the South Asian, Asian, Pacific Islander, and immigrant communities and cultures in our region is crucial to supporting the staff and interns we support. An ideal candidate is excited to undertake a wide range of HR tasks, like organizing HR trainings, coordinating onboarding, administering employee benefits and leaves, and crafting HR policies. In the next two years, this position will be instrumental to overhaul of old and creation of new systems including onboarding and staff recognition, and must be creative, resourceful and have the initiative to move projects forward, with a strong ability to work independently. This position will also act as the main point of contact for employee queries on HR-related topics, as well as facilitating payroll and benefits. A successful candidate will have good follow-through, a leadership- development lens, and most importantly, have an expressed interest and commitment to API Chaya’s mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Hiring and Training:
- Coordinate hiring processes, including posting job listings, applications review, scheduling and coordinating hiring team, training hiring team, preparing offer letters
- Conduct background checks and employee eligibility verifications
- Implement new hire orientation and coordinate all onboarding activities across the organization
Payroll and Benefits Administration
- Coordinate semi-monthly timesheets, provide data for Finance & Operations Manager to run payroll, including deductions and additions for employee benefits
- Enroll, change, and terminate employee benefits as needed
- Coordinate benefit invoices
Staff Culture and Satisfaction
- Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise
- Support staff in the adoption and understanding of human resource policies
- Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics, like time to hire and employee turnover rates
- Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits and organizing team building activities
- Lead staff appreciation, recognition, and morale activities as part of the staff wellness pod
- Promote direct feedback and HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace
- Respond to routine phone calls and emails
Compliance and record keeping
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices, improve HR compliance through research
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form according to legal requirements
- Coordinate constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least three years of human resource experience
- 1 year experience in payroll and/or benefits administration
- Demonstrated knowledge of general HR policies and procedures, best practices, and employment-related laws and regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem solver with interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong sense of teamwork, with ability to interact collaboratively, respectfully, and enthusiastically with a diverse set of program staff and consulting partners.
- Detail oriented within a dynamic environment of shifting priorities.
- High-energy person who is eager to accomplish things efficiently and accurately.
- Self motivated, able to work independently
- Knowledge in organizational development, particularly process improvement.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the technical ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS, talent, and performance management systems.
- Work authorization in the United States
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration
- SHRM or HRCI certification
- Understanding of disability justice principles and how it relates to HR administration
- Bilingual/Bicultural

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

COMPENSATION
Based on experience, full-time (1.0 FTE) compensation for this position starts at $71,340 - $78,475 salary range.
