The HR Consultant sits within our HR Shared Services organization. This operations team strives to develop efficient processes, systems and structures in support of each of our HR functions. This role is primarily responsible for annual audits and filings for CNA's benefit plans and all monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting in partnership with Financial Planning & Analysis and HR Accounting. You will advise and consult with CNA HR functions and HR Business Partner teams to ensure high-quality and accurate delivery of financial reporting and results in these areas.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates the annual HR department budget under FP&A guidance. Manages budget-to-actuals on monthly basis, providing insights and trending to HR department leaders.
- Manages and completes benefits financials and filings:
- Completes health and retirement plan financial projections and forecasting with HR Accounting, including quarterly Cost of Benefits analysis
- Supports annual benefit premium setting process
- Performs financial modeling to support plan design changes and strategic initiatives
- Liaison to HR Accounting, Internal Audit, FP&A and Payroll teams
- Responsible for overseeing all benefit plan compliance activities and filings; specifically: Form 5500, Form 990, ACA-1095, state health, disability and retirement
- Sets annual benefit plan department budget, health plan budget and retirement plan budgets
- Supports response to DOL/IRS audit inquiries
- Participates in and supports complex HR projects and ad-hoc requests that may relate to any HR function.
- Establishes strong relationships with HR partners and provides guidance in support of HR goals.

- Broad knowledge of HR business functions and industry practices
- Specific knowledge related to financials and budgeting processes
- Detail oriented with a high level of organizational skills and ability to manage and complete work in an efficient and thorough manner
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability prioritize completion of multiple tasks/projects in support of several business partners and leaders
- Proven ability to resolve complex problems in order to complete tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels
- Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment
- Ability to deliver consistent services utilizing HR work methods to address people, process and technology related issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, HR Systems and other business related software systems and the use of data reporting technologies.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent
- Typically a minimum of four years of related experience
- Preferred experience in accounting and financial analysis/projections
