Dermalogica is seeking a dynamic and talented Finance & Analytics Manager

General Description:

Provides finance leadership for an ambitious business information and Analytics agenda in Dermalogica globally. This role reports to the CFO and leads the development of analytics capability across global markets, manages all Unilever reporting requirements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, and is the primary business partner to global functions based in our HQ in Carson, California. The role also leads our annual strategic planning and budget exercise with the CFO, as well as the on-going P&L, CAPEX, Working Capital and global financial consolidation and forecast submissions to Unilever Prestige.

The role is based in our headquarters in Carson, California but is truly global in scope. Success is (1) supporting the CEO and CFO in their analytics questions and requirements; (2) ensuring the leadership team have the information they need to manage performance; (3) partnering with the International and Clearstart teams to achieve their global targets; (4) supporting global functions in managing their budgets; and (5) delivering an unbiased financial forecast, where all gaps to budget are understood and all reporting requirements to Unilever are delivered on time, in full and with minimal disruption.

Our analytics agenda is evolving quickly in scope and technology, and we have the ambition to be industry leading. This role is key to helping us achieve that goal through; leading a matrix/global team of data analysts in the analytics mission at dermalogica, data management, development of standard analytical tools (across a range of technologies), deep questioning / hypothesis testing and developing more advanced tools for complex performance questions. The purpose of our information and Analytics is to empower people across the business to access the insights they need to improve performance business in a simple way and at an affordable cost.

This management role has 2 direct reports, both Finance Analysts, and may involve some limited international travel.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  1. Lead the Dermalogica Information & Analytics agenda
    1. Dermalogica data structure / strategy implementation this role is the global lead for the standard sales and financial data model.
    2. Create and maintain analytics tools and visualizations within chosen applications.
    3. Build analytical and data science skills for the finance team to ensure our capabilities move with the industry and we get more from the investments we make.
    4. Understand how technology can drive simplification and increase the speed that key insights are visible to business partners.
    5. Work with key stakeholders to build predictive analytics capabilities that help further define issues and opportunities that will most significantly impact our business.
  2. Provide commercial finance support for global functions:
    1. International division - $50m sales channel across >50 geographies
    2. Clearstart team global marketing business unit with $20m sales responsibility.
    3. Global IT function support in managing $10m annual budget across projects, processes, people etc.
    4. Global marketing support in the evaluation of our innovation projects and overall department budget management.
    5. Other global functions R&D, Visual Merchandising, HR, Executive, Education
  3. Manage the content and quality of the Dermalogica analytics hub, sharing standard reporting with business users incl:
    1. Weekly sales reporting (sell in and sell out) for global business
    2. Monthly consolidated P&L reporting for market / department reviews
    3. Product innovation tracking
    4. Analytics tools to support our international business and global Clearstart team.
    5. Dermalogica KPI scorecards
    6. Balance Sheet, cashflow and working capital reporting
  4. Ensure monthly financial reporting requirements are met on time and in full
    1. Ensure all Dermalogica entities report actual results according to our deadlines and in line with the correct and globally aligned chart of accounts.
    2. Submit an accurate and unbiased Financial forecast monthly. This involves coordinating input from each of our subsidiaries.
    3. Produce monthly and quarterly performance materials following results for both internal review and formal review with Unilever Prestige.
    4. Take the lead on defining the Dermalogica reporting structure in Adaptive insights (P&L structure, channels, departments etc) and coordinate annual restatements (incl. foreign exchange rate changes).
  5. Performance management cycle
    1. Partner the CEO and the CFO through our monthly P&L reviews for Dermalogica subsidiaries and global departments
    2. Ensure the global performance management cycle is fully integrated with the country subsidiaries and international distributor businesses to optimize our collective effort.
    3. Track actual results and forecast against our financial targets to ensure all gaps are understood and performance issues are framed and investigated. Take initiative to investigate issues deeply and present solutions rather than just defining problems.
    4. Review how RPA or Gen AI can take work out of our forecasting and reporting cycle whilst improving quality.
  6. Lead the annual financial budget process globally
    1. Define the timetable and templates for the process ensuring it meets the need of all key stakeholders. Hold the business to account in delivering against this.
    2. Partner the CFO & CEO through the budget review meetings ensuring all agreed actions are completed and final targets are clear. This includes helping to define and quantify risks and opportunities.
    3. Ensure final targets are cascaded throughout the business at a granular level to ensure alignment.
    4. Keep track of the budget against our 2020 strategy and financial plan.

Education and Experience:

  • Prior experience in a commercial finance role within consumer goods or services.
  • Outstanding skillset in Excel
  • Experience working with large complex data from multiple sources.
  • Experience with Tableau or Microsoft Power BI
  • Experience with multiple financial reporting / ERP systems.
  • Finance degree or accounting qualification

The expected base salary range for this position is $115K to $125K. The exact salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, and budget.

This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan, based on personal performance and company results.
