We are a very progressive company seeking an energetic and skilled Network Administrator/Engineer. Candidate will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of hardware and software solutions in support of various insurance system applications. The Applicant must be a seasoned professional that requires minimal supervision, familiar with working in an environment that has moderate to high complexity. This role is based in either our company’s Norwich, CT location, or our Hingham, MA location.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and support all aspects of the Local Area Network and its security.
- Manage and support all aspects of connections to the internal network including Internet Connections, VPN’s, Site to Site connections, etc.
- Support all computer and network peripheral equipment; PC’s, printers, and specialized servers.
- Provide technical support to all Company end users or agents by troubleshooting problems, automating workflow, and training when necessary.
- Keep an up to date inventory of all equipment related to computer networks.
- Keep up to date on all current technology and emerging technology that could benefit the Company and its users and processes.
- Work with outside vendors and contractors on projects and day to day issues.
- Act as project lead on large scale projects related to improving the network and business processes. Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner and remain within the defined budget.
- Provide recommendations to assist with future planning on all aspects of the computer systems and network infrastructure.
- Manage application server installations and configurations including the ongoing maintenance required to apply operating system or virus protection patches and fixes as provided by vendor(s)
- Coordinate with development team to assess needs and recommend modifications and/or additions to software programs, processing and equipment.
- Coordinate on-going operations and support initiatives for applications, deployed systems and infrastructure.
- Ensure system/application availability through business continuity planning and annual tests.
- Monitor and communicate project status to IT management, sponsors, and vendors, as appropriate.
- Evaluate alternative operational efficiencies/business process change.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Position requires some after hours’ availability.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position you MUST have these required qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of network security; including managing and maintaining network switches, routers, firewalls, IPS, email appliances and VPN’s.
- Experience using and maintaining VMware environment, as well as updating, troubleshooting virtual host hardware (HPE experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and experience administering web, application, and database servers.
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 products.
- Experience with automation and scripting using tools such as Powershell, Ansible, and/or Bash.
- Experience with Jenkins or similar CI\CD software.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- 5+ years of experience with Network Administration.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Professional Certification preferred.
- Network/Security certifications preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
