National Grid will be investing over $48bn across our UK and US businesses and our procurement teams will play a significant role in supporting the investment, providing transformational solutions to achieve net zero. And that’s why we’re expanding our team globally with 90 additional roles.
We’re currently a team of over 300 talented professionals that cover a diverse range of categories from Indirect, IT & Digital, Network Operations (Maintenance & Repair) to Construction and Network Equipment, with a clear mission: to enable a clean, fair and affordable energy future through commercial, responsible and innovative supply chain leadership.
National Grid is about to begin an ambitious capital projects and construction program designed to build the infrastructure to enable our renewable electric future. Projects include upgrades to transmission lines, substations and distribution network infrastructure that will support renewable energy and reliability initiatives and other programs.
Within National Grid’s US Procurement team, we are looking to expand our capacity and enhance our capabilities to contract for the materials and Services required by this $30B program.

What you'll do
THESE POSITIONS CAN BE LOCATED IN MASSACHUSETTS AND NEW YORK STATE OR ANY NEIGHBORING STATES.
You will be joining our Gas Mains and Services or Pipeline Team and play a pivotal role in driving innovation throughout the category with a key focus on sourcing excellence, detailed analytics, market research and subject matter expertise that will enable stakeholders to make strategic sourcing decisions. You will also act as a surrogate for the Category Manager when required and contribute to fostering a performance-driven and value-focused culture. Key accountabilities include:
• Strategic category management – Develop and implement forward-thinking end-to-end category strategies aligned with business needs and regulatory commitments whilst leveraging subject matter expertise within strategic sourcing to guide stakeholders
• Total cost of ownership & analytics – Evaluate total cost of ownership and supplier/contract switching costs for informed decision making and utilise complex data sets to identify potential opportunities
• Market and supplier development – Understand criteria for alternative country sourcing, associated risks and contribute to business case development
• People & Leadership – Lead and manage key category teams, providing training and driving a performance management culture whilst continually developing talent
• Sourcing events & process excellence – Oversee strategic sourcing activities that drive value through effective process management and identify innovative procurement solutions
• Supplier relationship management – Identify critical suppliers and create engagement plans, holding suppliers accountable with strategic reviews and KPI creation
What we're looking for
We’re looking for people who can demonstrate creativity and commercial acumen whilst identifying opportunities to drive value and deliver our net zero ambition and have a passion to grow yourself and our business. Someone who;
• Can provide multi-disciplinary leadership, direction, and support across diverse teams
• Has experience of broad, supply chain management/Procurement, in enterprise environments.
• Proven experience within strategic sourcing and category management.
• Sound experience in contract management and negotiation
• Extensive experience and understanding of procurement processes, vendor management and business analysis
• Can communicate dynamically at all levels and build collaborative and purposeful relationships with existing and potential supply chain partners.

Annual Salary
DNY: $115,000-$135,000
NE: $107,000-$126,000
UNY: $96,000-$113,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
