Department Overview
The HR Employee Relations team supports the organization by serving as the initial point of advice, problem resolution, and facilitation in the areas of employee relations, performance management, and employee discipline; provides interpretation of related policies, procedures, and practices. The team identifies, responds, and analyzes specific employee relations concerns and makes recommendations to management.
Position Summary
The Expert HR Consultant works with a team of professionals who are responsible for advising leadership, monitoring, and addressing performance management, employee discipline, and employee relations. In this role, you will provide interpretation of policies and employment law and will also serve as an employee advocate. You will act as a liaison between departments/divisions that impact the employee employment experience including recruiting, worker's compensation, leave of absences, payroll, and compensation. This role may also work closely with the HR Investigations team that addresses complex misconduct issues. The Expert HR Consultant should demonstrate strong foundational HR knowledge with a specialty in Employee Relations.
The position is hybrid working from your remote office and in-person for meetings or collaboration as business needs require.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $118,000
Bay Area Maximum: $188,000
Job Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations: Advise management on complex and difficult employee relations issues that may drive/shape business or change management strategy, approach. May consult with leaders on strategy and action to address broad based EE relations issues (eg employee engagement action planning, Career Tracks implementation). May make PG&E HR policy & procedures recommendations.
  • Performance Management: Work with Directors on Manager and Director level performance issues.
  • Compensation: Advise management on complex and difficult compensation actions and issues such as base pay under or over range maximum, internal equity anomalies, pay compression issues, sending performance messages using pay. Involve Compensation as needed.
  • Labor Relations: Understand, identify labor relations trends and issues that may drive/shape business or change management strategy, approach.
  • Leadership Development: Facilitate talent management reviews. May take active role in supporting development discussions of high potential management employees. Provide leadership coaching to Directors and Managers.
  • Organizational Design: Organizational effectiveness and staffing level analysis. Recommends spans & layers.
  • Workforce Planning: Able to identify issues or problems and develop line of business level recommendations, with cross department coordination. Understand business and financial drivers, metrics, etc.
  • Coordination, Planning and Delivery: Partner with HR, legal and business experts to address unique situations and needs.

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • High School Diploma
  • 8 years of relevant work experience

Desired:
  • PHR or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience as an HR Generalist with responsibilities ranging from employee relations, employee development and leadership coaching
  • Solid knowledge of applicable state and federal employment and labor laws and governmental compliance requirements
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) and consultation skills
  • Strong relationship development and management skills
