Sonrisas Dental Health, Inc. (SDH) is a non-profit dental center dedicated to providing access to quality dental care and oral health education to our community. We provide these services with dignity, respect, and compassion. SDH improves the health of our community members through culturally sensitive, integrated care, with a focus on disease prevention. SDH is a dental home for our patients, providing preventative dental care, mobile dental, general dentistry, geriatric dentistry, pediatric dentistry, sedation dentistry and accommodations for patients with special needs and disabilities. Seventy percent of SDH’s patients are low-income.

About the Position: The Assistant Practice Manager will support and help foster a strong organizational staff culture, implementing the delivery of Sonrisas’ mission to our patients. This role will provide leadership on the clinical operations team by supporting the Practice Manager, who is responsible for the dental front office at Sonrisas’ Clinics. Strong working relationships across the organization and with community partners are important to the success of this position. The Assistant Practice Manager will work closely with and support care coordinator team members and clinical staff to facilitate a calm and efficient experience for our patients.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing dental front office required
  • Bachelors degree or higher preferred
  • Successful completion of background checks required
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required

Fundamental duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Help to create an atmosphere that ensures the highest quality dental experience for patients. Participate in the goals of the practice to provide a high standard of quality care
  • Work closely with Care Coordinator Team on patient revenue, including accounts receivable and insurance billing. Sonrisas has both public and private dental insurance patients.
  • Support the reporting for month end, production, visit forecasting. Be able to close the month if Practice Manager is unavailable.
  • Manage clinic schedule with Care Coordinator team, ensuring provider schedules are productive, process patient rescheduling along with ability to prioritize patient, clinic and provider scheduling needs. Work with Care Coordinator team to reduce patient no-shows.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverage and billing with the ability to learn public insurance if no prior experience with those plans.
  • Oversee accuracy of pre- and post-appointment details, including patient treatment, to ensure accurate information for billing and patient collections.
  • Oversee assigned community partnership programs
  • Provide clear, caring, and responsive patient communications. De-escalate situations when needed.
  • Participate in team meetings that train and inform staff about clinical and operational efficiencies as well as topics that increase the quality of services provided to patients.
  • Attend, coordinate and/or lead various meetings as assigned
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Willingness to travel to all Sonrisas’ clinics, as needed

Physical Expectations: Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with office tasks will be performed on a frequent, repetitive basis. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals and copiers is required. Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. is required, up to 50 lbs. is helpful, but rare in occurrence.
