Job Description
Aquinas Consulting has an immediate need for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist at a growing, global leader in manufacturing located in the Colorado Springs area.
In this role you will serve as a plant EH&S Specialist, responsible for periodic environmental permitting, reporting, and liaison with regulatory authorities. Act as technical expert in environmental compliance and maintain ongoing regulatory compliance. Works independently approximately 80% of the time. Decisions and recommendations on large scale or complex projects are subject to management team approval.
Job Duties:
- Oversee the Environmental Compliance program and support Safety and Health Compliance Program as needed within the Security CO facility.
- Manages all aspects of the manufacturing plant’s environmental programs, including developing programs and procedures, regulatory and compliance, training, communications, managing budget, and approving correspondences and activities to promote and foster a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment.
- Environmental programs include air pollution, hazardous waste, stormwater, wastewater, SPCC, chemical inventory, DOT, HAZMAT, contractor safety, bio-waste, solid waste and pollution prevention.
- Maintain and communicate environmental policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant Associates in complying with occupational safety and health standards and regulations.
- Coordinate plant emergency evacuation drills and maintain emergency evacuation plan.
- Conduct EH&S audits for regulatory compliance and permitting.
- Lead and conduct internal ISO audits for compliance.
- Participate on the plant’s safety committee.
- Provide Associate training on the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances.
- Maintain environmental regulatory reports, such as stormwater permit, hazardous waste, wastewater, air permit, SPCC, TIER II, and RCRA Biennial Reports.
- Maintain appropriate files and environmental records for regulatory compliance.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree, ideally in Environmental Science or a similar field, plus 1-3+ years of related experience OR Certifications/AS Degree plus 3+ years of experience is ideal
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and legal documents.
- Ability to work with teams in maintaining and enhancing environmental programs.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management and possible third parties.
- Competent in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email is essential.
- Experience in supporting and training hazardous materials teams is desired but not required.
- Ability to apply statistical and mathematical equations to assess the magnitude of environmental factors and stresses arising in or from the workplace.
