Strategic Communications and Engagement

Job Summary: This is an independent professional role who serves as a key representative of the District to the community, actively promoting engagement with its programs and projects. This role offers the chance to spearhead and contribute to a wide array of communication projects and initiatives, driving the District's outreach endeavors and fostering meaningful engagement with stakeholders.

Job Duties Include:

• Identifies and participates in key community events to develop and deliver engaging presentations on District programs and projects to various groups including civic, business and other special interest groups as needed.
• Proactively identifies high-visibility issues relevant to the District and develop effective strategies for addressing them. Respond to public inquiries and perform other public communication duties as assigned, maintaining a professional and informative demeanor.
• Develop and disseminate water resource information to students and teachers through various educational channels. Collaborate with educators and educational institutions to create materials and activities that enhance understanding of water conservation and environmental stewardship.
• Take ownership of assigned special communications projects and initiatives, assuming leadership roles and ensuring successful implementation. Projects may involve serving as a liaison with select groups such as other District divisions and bureaus, media outlets, advisory councils, and external agencies.
• Write for District publications, websites, presentations or other communication tools to reach various audiences; developing and implementing communication plans for specific audiences or issues, including contributing to content creation for social media.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, environmental science or related field. Professional experience in these fields can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
• Four years of professional experience in outreach, media and/or public relations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
• Knowledge of community outreach strategies and best practices.
• Ability to work some weekends and nights, as required for participation in key community events.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

Mostly office environment and periodic travel as required.

Licenses:

Requires a valid Florida driver license.

Travel:

Requires travel to attend off-site meetings, sometimes outside of normal business hours including overnight. Ability to drive oneself to and from meetings.

Additional Details:

Salary Range: $62,420.80 - $78,020.80

Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
