Job description

This position reports to the Chief Communications Officer or designee and will support the City's Public Affairs Office by disseminating news and other information to Spanish-speaking citizens via direct Community Outreach, press releases, social media, translation during press events, and other methods.

  • Coordinates initiatives designed to promote the city and its services to the community.
  • Translates various public-facing documents and other forms of communication into Spanish.
  • Assists in the planning and coordination of community events that support Hispanic residents.
  • Supports department public awareness activities through print and web-based platforms.
  • Represents the department at various community meetings.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Keeps abreast of all Hispanic activities and coordinates initiatives designed to promote the city and its services to the community.
  • Conducts TV and print interviews in Spanish language media.
  • Fluent in verbal and written Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public relations, marketing, and event planning.
  • Ability to develop and make presentations to large groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain records.
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and related software applications.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Knowledge of social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of video and photo editing tools and digital media formats.
  • Skilled in copywriting and copy-editing.
  • Skilled in time management.
  • Ability to understand historical, current, and future trends in the digital content and social media space.
  • Ability to manage crisis communications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and multitask.
  • Ability to listen effectively.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and work under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • A five-year combination of education and/or experience in public relations, communications, business administration, political science, marketing, or a related field.
  • Must be fluent in verbal and written Spanish and English.
