Organizational Context - Founded in 1997, This is a community-based organization that provides humanitarian aid, educational opportunities, and community engagement in the U.S./México border region. We offer temporary hospitality, meeting a comprehensive set of basic needs, for asylum-seekers released from DHS custody on their way to their U.S.-based sponsor. We also provide opportunities for community members and visitors to learn about and serve our borderland’s community. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Operations: Work with the supervisory staff at the Hospitality Center (temporary shelter) and offsite affiliated campuses to efficiently transport upwards of 250 guests throughout the time they are in the care of BSC. Relevant operations include, but may not be limited to:
- Methodical review and creation of departure manifests for same day and next day departures.
- Review and correct manifests created the day previous before handing them off to the staff for final departures.
- Create new manifests to ensure timely arrival of guests to transport hubs.
- Continuously evaluate and reprioritize vehicle use based on changing competing demands and priorities.
- Clear communication, coordination and problem solving with the:
- Travel Supervisors
- Guest Services Supervisors
- Port Coordinators
- Airport Team Coordinators
- Drivers
- Track live movement of vehicles and drivers on and off campus at all times.
- Monitor driving routes and trip times.
- Flag improper stops, or routes taken by drivers.
- Monitor driver communications on the Dispatch chat.
- Log-keeping
- Maintain accurate logs of Dispatcher communications with drivers and supervisors.
- Maintain organized logs of past manifests.
- Providing a welcoming environment & contributing a can-do attitude to teamwork.
- Work with all members of the Hospitality Center – including community volunteers – to ensure success of the overall operation.
- Greet visitors and volunteers touring the Center and kindly engaging with them during discussion of operations.
Required Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum one (3) year of full- time work experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Requirements
- Conversationally fluent in Spanish and English required.
- Demonstrated exemplary skill at prompt and professional verbal and written communication.
- Exemplary ability to balance and prioritize competing demands in a time-sensitive manner with little oversight.
- Skilled at working in a team-oriented collaborative environment and independently.
- Strong initiative.
- Flexible; ability to adjust to constantly changing circumstances.
- Ability to work comfortably for a faith-based employer, as Border Servant Corps is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
- Current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Completed COVID-19 vaccination and booster.
Working Conditions:
- Shift schedule with other shifts dependent on smooth transition between shift teams.
- Both interpersonal and solitary work during daily operations at Hospitality Center temporary shelter site.
Materials will be accepted until the position is filled.
