Director, Strategic Product Management

Job Description
The Director, Strategic Product Management (DSPM) has full product level responsibility including but not limited to P&L responsibility at a product level for both Power and Instrumentation Product lines at Programmable Power. The DSPM is responsible for Product Line management (PLM), NPI Program management, and Applications Engineering.
Roles and responsibilities
Defining and advocating New Products

• Capable of studying and understanding our products, our markets, our competitors, and lead the team of Product Line Managers (PLM) to define the requirements for future products.
• Drive the PLM team to articulate these new products/features/alterations and the value of pursuing a development program.
• Strong desire and self-motivation to be recognized as the "resident expert" on market size, primary applications, technical requirements, and trends affecting the use of all AMETEK products.
• The DSPM is the overall architect of the product roadmap for the business. Has an ability to articulate a strategic plan that is logical, appropriate with the given business climate and is data driven.
• Managing the new product development process
• The DSPM has overall responsibility for the new product development (NPD) and launch process with primary oversight responsibilities for assuring that all stage gate exit criteria are met from Concept Approval request to Ship acceptance.
• Responsible for a robust system that assures NPI product requirements are met, and changes throughout the development process are thoroughly evaluated and impact assessments are regularly performed.
• Providing guidance and clarification to the PLMs and NPI PM and other team members through all phases of the development process.
• The DSPM has primary responsibility for marketing launch activities for all new or updated products.
• The DSPM has overall responsibility to review modified standard product requests for technical and financial feasibility including return on investment criteria. The PLM team initially determines if there is a business case based on projected development cost, engineering opportunity costs, sales forecast of such special engineering request.

Post release guidance

• Provide any guidance required to resolve issues or inquiries related to product performance both technically (performance and reliability) and financially.
• The DSPM team provides marketing application support for all products. This includes research and write up of application notes and marketing bulletins as well as participation with field sales personnel to determine cost effective solutions for customer challenges.

Financial

• Responsible for understanding all product performance metrics to assure that the new product will be successful both technically (performance and reliability) and financially.
• Responsible for setting pricing on all products based upon market impact, positive and negative impact on sales, resultant margins, and competitive product influences.

Customer Intimacy

• A core capability to this role is commercial touch and business acumen where the DSPM will lead technical and commercial discussions with customers in the appropriate setting as it relates to new product engagement or "voice of the customer" market research.
• Possess a detailed understanding of customer applications and individual market drivers.
• Capable of establishing relationships with key customers and channel partners to get VOC input on new product concepts.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience and Skills)

• Minimum of 15 years of technical application, sales or Product Management experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a product line management role
• BSEE (or other relevant technical degree, Electrical degree preferred)
• Strong analytical ability balanced with an ability to draw conclusions and take action based on data.
• Excellent writing skills and experience with Windows Office tools
• Articulate verbal presentation skills
• A demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed and independent manner, prioritizing work appropriately.
• A demonstrated ability to work effectively in an influential management role.
• Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications (Advantageous, Not Required)

• Background in the Test and Measurement industry preferably in Power and Instrumentation
• MBA with marketing emphasis desirable
• Engineering design experience very helpful

Compensation
Salary Minimum: $150,000
Salary Maximum: $200,000
