Responsibilities
The role of the Director of Government Relations- West Coast region will assist with the day-to-day and strategic aspects of our Government Relations department focusing on western states by coordinating activities to develop and implement effective strategies, building a strong network of relationships with policymakers, corporations, coalitions, public interests’ group, and local officials. As well as providing support and training in legislative and regulatory issues, developing strategic and tactical planning in each assigned state of the US, providing analysis and monitoring of the political environment. Duties also include facilitating opportunities to demonstrate the IAPMO Group’s in-house expertise in the areas of codes and standards development and maintaining a thorough understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, plus other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Abilities
A quality contender for the position of Director of Government Relations - West Coast region will have proven success in building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders and industry groups.
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science or a related field or combination of education in similar work experience.
- 8 years of relevant work experience in public policy and political affairs drawn from experience in governmental activities.
- A thorough understanding of state and municipal legislative and regulatory processes.
- Can quickly grasp and address the specific issues facing the industry.
- Experience in developing a political communication strategy and the ability to persuasively communicate complex concepts and programs at the highest levels of Government and business.
- The ability to be an integral part of an action-oriented, decision-making working environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and delivering presentations.
- Proven success in building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders and industry groups.
- Solid PC skills.
- Computer literacy sufficient to operate spreadsheet and word processing applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint).

Pay: $130,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
