Become a Government Relations Advisorat Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you'll lead SCE external activities/engagements in a specified geographic area which includes: cities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Hesperia, Victorville; unincorporated San Bernardino County areas of Baker, Barstow Heights, Daggett, Helendale, Lucerne Valley, Newberry, Oak Hills, Phelan, Pinion Hills, Trona, Searles Valley, Yermo; Clark County (Nevada); and other areas as assigned. You will be part of project teams and will assist in the development and delivery of public affairs strategies and tactics for key issues, programs, and projects. You will develop and provide assessments, intelligence, and recommendations to the team and will validate or supplement intelligence garnered from social media research.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Manage relationships with elected officials, local government staff and community stakeholders, as needed, network with key external stakeholders and influencers within a geographic region in support of assigned projects and business priorities.
  • Monitor local government and community activities and issues, including the timely review of city council, county board of supervisors, community service districts and other local government body meeting agendas and land use/planning documents. Attend local government and agency meetings to ensure Company compliance with city/county and agency rules and regulations. Keep abreast of proposed public policies and administrative actions that may impact the Company and its customers.
  • Lead response and resolution of highly escalated community issues related to programs/projects.
  • Develop understanding of political/community landscape of impacted project area(s); assists project team briefings, public meetings, presentations, door-to-door outreach, etc., gather community intelligence to validate or supplement intelligence from social media monitoring and research; responsible for social media presence (in coordination with Corporate Communications) and community engagement as a company representative; identify community risks and opportunities and proactively incorporates these into outreach strategy.
  • Provide subject matter counsel and guidance to internal team members and external stakeholders relative to handling company issues in communities; coordinate with internal company leaders and other OU project leaders within the scope of specific issues being addressed; conduct training to internal partners on dealing with the public.
  • Work with project managers and teams on the development of project plans, including scope, schedule, and budget; measure impact of work in either the communities served, or the projects supported.
  • Provide support in an assigned role for the Organizational Unit (OU) and Company emergency response, resiliency, and Incident Management Team (IMT) activations, processes, and reports. After hours, night and weekend duty rotation required.
Qualifications


The Essentials

  • Seven or more years working experience in public affairs, Government Relations, or community relations.
  • Experience developing outreach strategies crafted to target governmental and community-based entities.
  • Must have a valid California Driver's license.

The Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Political Science, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in a cross-functional environment balancing multiple stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with social media tools for monitoring and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze, summarize and recommend ideas and concepts to senior management in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
  • Handle and support multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Strong ethics, people skills, and the ability to optimally manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
