The Development Manager is a dynamic, creative, and organized individual interested in helping RiverCenter thrive and grow. This position plays a critical role in the grant management, corporate sponsorship, and individual giving for RiverCenter. The Development Manager is responsible for developing and assisting in the growth of grant funding for various programs and operations, the Corporate Sponsorship Program, and the individual giving program. They will be part of ensuring revenue goals are met for various fundraising areas. The Development Manager is a full-time position that reports directly to the Executive Director/CEO.
Although this job description enumerates the main responsibilities of the Development Manager, the position also may involve other responsibilities relevant to those specified. The job requires cooperation collaboration with personnel in all areas of the RiverCenter operation.
Responsibilities
Support or lead the implementation of the grant management, corporate sponsorship, and individual giving with the Executive Director.
- Discover donor companies’ corporate social responsibility and/or workplace giving objectives, identify opportunities that align with RiverCenter’s mission statement and work with colleagues to create engagement initiatives and opportunities.
- Review and provide suggestions for the Corporate Sponsorship Program
- Together with the Executive Director, actively solicit and engage past, current, and potential corporate sponsors.
- Collaborate with staff directors in the development of creating and writing grant proposals, narratives, and final reports.
- Assist staff directors with the tracking of all grants in all stages.
- Conduct research on current and potential grants funders with the Executive Director
Lead and/or support special and signature events with the Executive Director.
- Assist in the creation and execution of special development events for RiverCenter patrons
- Work closely with the Development Assistant, Director of Marketing, and Operations Directors on development related goals.
- Other duties assigned by Executive Director.
Non-managerial Duties
- Steward potential new members of the Capstone Society, RiverCenter’s planned-giving opportunity.
- Write, submit and follow-up on grant applications the center has regularly submitted (Georgia Council for the Arts and Columbus Cultural Arts Alliance) and search out and pursue additional grant opportunities.
- Secure and renew annual sponsor partnerships (corporate and/or individual) for the concerts and shows presented by RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.
- Write and edit the donor newsletter.
- Develop and maintain basic skills in the use of Donor Perfect, the center’s donor database program.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s or higher degree – or equivalent experience in such fields as communications, business, public relations, liberal arts, etc.
- Progressively more responsible experience in an area involving strategic planning and implementation of development activities.
- An appreciation for the role of the performing arts in the well-being of individuals and society
- Outstanding skills in written & oral communications, organizational management, interpersonal relations, and leadership.
- Ability to manage a multiplicity of activities in a complex and demanding environment.
