Chilewich is seeking an entrepreneurially minded design lover with a passion for how things are made to join our team as Design and Product Development Manager.
In this multifaceted role, you’ll take ownership of the Product Development process at our fully owned manufacturing facility in northwest Georgia, from research and prototyping to costing and setting standards for production quality. You’ll embrace the challenge of optimizing processes, working closely with our New York City-based design team, suppliers, and factory team to establish the most feasible, efficient, and cost-effective ways to transition final prototypes into products of the highest quality. In troubleshooting with our design, production, and manufacturing teams, you’ll identify and overcome obstacles with inventive and practical solutions. Respecting the roles and responsibilities of your co-workers and collaborators, you’ll approach your work with a team spirit and a sense of humor.
The ideal candidate for this hybrid position is based out of our North Georgia facility and open to regular (approximately once a month) travel to New York City.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain detailed spec sheets for each SKU in development
- Establish product quality standards for manufacturing to follow
- Communicate, coordinate, and troubleshoot with our sales team, designers, suppliers, production team, and our own factory to ensure that design standards are met
- Work closely with our manufacturing staff to ensure products are tested and conform to all regulatory and manufacturing requirements
- Ensure timely delivery of prototypes and samples
- Use creative problem-solving to resolve challenges with Product Development and deliveries
- Communicate with sales, marketing, and production teams on evolving timelines for production prototypes
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of 3-5 years of Product Development or production experience in manufacturing, preferably in home/interiors, fashion, textiles, or industrial design
- Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency, particularly in Excel and Adobe Creative Suite
- Excellent mathematical skills, with a thorough understanding of building COG and margin analyses reporting
- Detail-oriented, producing work that has been triple-checked for accuracy
- Inquisitive and inclined to confidently ask questions to gain a thorough understanding of what is required
- Experience in and appreciation of creativity and inventiveness
