Workplace Status:
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
As a Product Engineer you will be responsible for leading product development and integration activities. You will utilize engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and system programs; while effectively achieving program milestones by thorough and rigorous program management.
You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program work with perfection. You will design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. You will also perform engineering design evaluations.
Responsibilities:
- DRE for Video Processing Module including all elements of hardware and software.
- DRE for Viewing Calibrations, including up-integration into Virtual Cockpit Unit (VCU)
- Develops component technical specifications as well as statement of requirements and subsystem technical specifications as required.
- Support process and tool improvements needed to enable.
- Work with the SW team to clarify rule-sets and work to eliminate ambiguity.
- Guide the team on interpretation of program documentation from a option content standpoint.
- Work closely with the VCU Cal release team for alignment.
- Leads formal design, peer, and quality reviews.
- Supports resolution of technical issues, product development team meetings, supplier resident engineers, sourcing activities, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities, and read across of lessons learned.
- Supports the team to continuously improve quality of calibrations.
- Supports resolution of issues and helps in Triage of issues between SW and Cal
- Supports product development team meetings.
- Primary GM engineering interface with the component suppliers for specific programs
- Knowledge of hardware and software interfaces
- Implements calibration changes utilizing work tickets in RTC, JIRA, PRTS and other issue resolution systems.
- Ensure all vehicle program imperatives (cost, timing, investment, and quality) are met.
- Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs.
- Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development.
- Performs complex design analysis.
- Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
- Implements engineering changes.
- Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data.
- Solves engineering related problems.
- Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs.
- Releases calibration part numbers using the established release systems.
- Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations.
- Coordinates and consults with the VCU Hardware and SW teams, along with VCU Calibration organization.
- Plans and implements test and/or development programs.
- Releases parts and subsystems for production
- Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations.
- Capable of organizing and driving design for manufacturing initiatives
- Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing.
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products.
- Travels as required.
Additional Description
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in a job-related area
- Prior experience with calibration release processes
- Experience with VesCOM submissions, SPR, vCDM and other calibration tools.
- Prior experience releasing calibration within the GM Systems and environment required.
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- Understanding of product design and process interdependencies
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area.
- High level of oral and written communication skills
Desired Skills:
- DFMEA training
- Prior experience in electrical/electronic component design/release a plus but not required for this assignment.
- Knowledge of software development and systems as it pertains to Viewing preferred.
- Experience with VBA programming in Excel and/or Python.
- Electronic Validation Experience
- DFSS Certification
- Software Controls/wiring experience
- Design/Development of Safety Critical Systems/Components
- Experience with Automated Driving sensors (Cameras, Lidars, Radars, Ultrasonic Sensors) or camera stitching a plus.
- Any Calibration tool or modification skills are a plus.
- Understanding of HIL test methods
- Prior experience in Validation
- Prior experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering for DFM
- Prior experience in Calibration work
- Prior experience with vCDM, CRETA or CalDS
- Prior experience negotiating between parties.
- Prior experience outside automotive a plus for fresh perspective
- Prior commercial experience a plus for negotiations with supply base
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering.
- Knowledge of Team Center Systems Engineering and/or IBM DOORS requirements management tools is a plus.
