Work Arrangement:

Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center, Warren, MI, three times per week, at minimum (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

The Role:

At this level you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management.


As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.


In this role you would resolve highly complex technical issues and conduct advanced research. You would recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures and be skilled and proficient with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. This person will rely mostly on extensive personal experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals. You will perform multiple tasks. Lead and likely direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Perform engineering design evaluations and concept development across global vehicle programs

  • Utilize engineering tools and collaborate with VDDV groups including Safety Performance to successfully develop the best system solution

  • Package components such as Steering Wheels & Driver Airbags and collaborate with other systems within the vehicle (Interior IP/Trim/Overhead/Seats, Electrical, Body, etc.)

  • Work multi-functionally to support initial vehicle configuration work, realize cost optimization, deliver requirements, and implement product and process improvements

  • Balance business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing

  • Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations (e.g. Design, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, suppliers) and lead the product development team (PDT)

  • Stay abreast of relevant new technology and products

  • Evaluate supplier proposals and designs

  • Ensure specifications at the vehicle, system and component level and regulations for all regions of sale are met with balanced solutions

  • Summarizes complex issues into a format that is easily understood by leadership

  • Effectively facilitate meetings and publish necessary documentation

  • Willingness to travel as required. Local travel (10-15%)

  • Flexible hours to enable global review meetings

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science Degree Required in Engineering

  • Minimum 2+ years of developing and executing technical solutions for mechanical components to support new vehicle programs

  • Project Management experience 

  • Knowledge of Safety system development (Airbags and Steering Wheels)

  • Design Release experience required

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work with multidisciplinary, cross-cultural teams

  • Proficient at dealing effectively with ambiguity and forward-thinking environment

  • Capacity to lead projects, provide accurate time estimates, and prioritize efficiently

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with othershas context menu

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • MS in Engineering 

  • Demonstrated experience in Interior Restraint (Steering Wheel andairbag) Systems

  • Release experience 

  • Vehicle integration experience within Interior/Safety or other functional areas 

  • Design For Six Sigma / Red X experience

  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimension and Tolerance) 

The role is subject to U.S Export Control Regulations.
