Summary: The purpose of this position is to coordinate and supervise all activities, policies and staffing associated with the Dale Howard Family Activity Center and the Dittmer Gym facilities. Works closely with other staff, students, and patrons to ensure that each guest enjoys a pleasant exercise experience in a safe, friendly environment. Duties include marketing, programming, facility scheduling and monitoring constant coverage of the center during its hours of operation. Requires a flexible schedule to ensure staffing of the facilities.
The Head Coach position serves as an integral member of the athletic department including its operations and events. Provides daily oversight of their assigned collegiate athletic program. This position is responsible for the recruitment and retention of a full competitive roster. Follows all Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD), Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations in administering the program. Supports the development of student athletes. Coordinates travel, game, schedule, inventory, and maintenance of equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees the development and implementation of programs that benefit all age groups and interests to meet the community and student needs for health, wellness, fitness and recreation. Administers, coordinates and monitors scheduling of activities and events offered to maximize use of the facility. Coordinates student activities with student life and student engagement staff.
- Hires, trains, and supervises part-time staff including work-study students. Reviews and approves payroll in a timely manner. Ensures supervisory coverage during all hours of operations. Communicate the importance of and hold staff accountable for high stands of behavior, including punctuality, cleanliness, customer-friendly, and being attentive to the security of the facility.
- Promotes membership enrollments, community relations and direct fundraising activities. Aggressively solicits special event rentals at the DHFAC.
- Develops, recommends and monitors the budget. Manages the purchase, maintenance, and repair of equipment. Recommends the selections and purchase of equipment and supplies.
- Provides an environment for successful recruitment and retention of student athletes. Supports the development of student athletes in the classroom and in their respective sport.
- Coordinates travel, game schedule and game management. Provides programs needs within allocated budget, including inventory of all equipment and uniforms. Assists with maintenance of team and college equipment.
- Develops on and off campus relationships that support the success of the position. Assists with program and department fundraising.
- Ensures compliance with all IVCCD, ICCAC and NJCAA rules and regulations.
- Serves as an integral member of the athletic department including its operations and events such as providing game day management duties and driving teams to sporting events as needed for all athletic programs.

- Attends IVCCD and ICCAC meetings as required.
- Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Exercise Science preferred.
Base Wage: $42,000-$56,000 annually - actual salary will be based on experience and education.
