ABOUT THE STATE FAIR OF TEXAS
Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.
SUMMARY
The coordinator of Community Engagement serves an important role on the Fair’s public relations team helping execute community programs and related events, focused on promoting the Fair’s mission pillars of community involvement and education. This role will support existing programs and the potential development of new programs in collaboration with leadership and team members, as needed.
This role will help implement the Fair’s strategic plan through all community programs to help ensure high-quality experiences for the surrounding community and Fair guests.
Critical to the role is the ability to support the Fair’s work in partnership with community leaders and agencies, as necessary. This role maintains relationships with current community partners, ensuring that these relationships are continuing to evolve based on the needs of those they serve, in addition to building new relationships to help uplift our community and support the nonprofit mission of the State Fair of Texas.
This role advocates for Community Engagement to be embedded within the fabric of the organization’s work and serves as an advocate for the State Fair of Texas in the community with a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
Through close collaboration with the head of public relations, the manager of community relations and events, and other public relations team members, this role sets and completes measurable program goals and outcomes and aligns activities accordingly to foster continuous success.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
● Support the Mission Statement of the State Fair of Texas.
● All State Fair employees must align with the organization’s core values: Texantude, enthusiastically customer focused, exemplary team spirit, affection for the Fair and our mission, and stewardship of the tradition.
● Provide a wide variety of support duties, event coordination, and overall administrative services for the Community Affairs department within Public Relations.
● Create strong brand connections and put forth community-building efforts, organizational development, program management, and coordinating expansion efforts as directed by team leadership.
● Develop, in partnership with leadership and team members, new program ideas and content that furthers the Fair’s mission and goals.
● Responsible for coordination of community-based initiatives and events.
● Responsible for coordination of on-site learning programs and educational outreach activities, at the direction of team leadership.
● Responsible for the implementation of initiatives and research on issues that impact the South Dallas/Fair Park community.
● Assist with community advocacy and coordination of the Big Tex Scholarship Program, as needed.
● Assist with community advocacy and provide support to the Fair’s food security programs, like Big Tex Urban Farms.
● Visit program partners as well as current and potential grant recipients to help identify needs, capture best practices, verify funding execution, and define optimal implementation.
● Work with head of public relations and team to build and manage relationships with key external partners to help bring more support and opportunities to the Fair’s South Dallas/Fair Park neighbors.
● Build and manage the community database as an accessible resource to the organization.
● Create content for internal and external communication in partnership with the PR-communications team.
● As appropriate, consult with other departments on ways to reach new audiences. This might include collaborating with communications, marketing, exhibits, and concessions to develop innovative approaches to interact with community partners, the DFW community, and statewide community at large.
● Assist with special events and projects, as needed.
● Attend community events and possibly speak to audiences of varying sizes on behalf of the Fair, as approved by leadership.
● Support leadership and team as needed on various projects.
● Perform additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
● Prepare, type, and proofread a variety of documents including general correspondence, agendas, and reports; enter a variety of data and information into various computer programs.
● Work additional hours for community-related programs and events as well as immediately before and during the annual State Fair of Texas event, the Fair’s most significant community program and largest fundraiser of the year.
