Position Summary
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) directs, administers and manages the operations of the organization in accordance with policies, strategic goals and objectives, towards the achievement of continuous improvement in the provision of quality services. This position is responsible for supervising five team members, including operations, facilities, IT and medical support. The COO works collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer to develop, monitor and implement with the clinical departments, quality improvement and outcome measures
The COO positively supports Wilmington Community Clinic’s core values, vision and mission to ensure that the organization’s goals and objectives are met.
The selected candidate for this position must have Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or look-alike clinic experience.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation for this position is $135,000 - $150,000. WCC offers competitive salary and benefits including:

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the administration, guidance and management of operations and programs.
  • Act as a driving force behind our cultural transformation initiative: The Wilmington Way by working closely with the Human Resources team.
  • Focus on improving the team member and patient experience.
  • Provide mentorship, supervision and support to the Operations and Medical Support teams.
  • Lead various expansion projects such as the development of our new properties and electronic health record (EHR) migration.
  • Appraise and evaluate the results of overall operations regularly and systematically.
  • Attend monthly Board meetings.
  • Advise and support the Chief Executive Officer and other management members in decision-making.
  • Seek development opportunities through grants and other funding sources.
  • Guide and assist with implementation strategies for efficiency initiatives.
  • Ensure that all operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws.
  • Formulate and recommend operating policies and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication.
  • Assist, participate, and direct the development and preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets.
  • Ensure availability and train team members for the operation of all major organization activities.
  • Represent the organization externally in community relations and development of effective partnerships that would facilitate the development of a comprehensive and geographically dispersed integrated health care system.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, business administration, public administration or clinical field and/or 10 years of executive management and administrative experience in a complex healthcare organization.
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or look-alike clinic experience required.
  • Knowledge of community clinic operation.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations including HRSA, OSHA, HIPAA, etc.
  • Knowledge of community clinic operation.
  • In-depth knowledge of ambulatory care operations, corporate management, financial management systems including budgeting, reimbursement and strategic management.
  • Master’s degree in public health, business administration, public administration or clinical field preferred.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and team members.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to the organization’s mission.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach senior level associates to manage and develop high-performance teams and develop and implement business strategies.
  • Accurate and detailed record keeping and reporting.
  • A high degree of cultural sensitivity and the ability to work well with a diverse community.
  • Ability to remain organized and maintain excellent attention to detail while working on multiple projects.
  • Proven successful supervision of a team.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
