Job description

Job Description

Company

  • For more than four decades, our client has been improving the well-being of in-need, underserved communities in Los Angeles by providing access to high-quality healthcare and preventive education for all, regardless of ability to pay
  • Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center, the organization provides care to approximately 15,000 patients through 5 locations in Los Angles with an operating budget of $20M
  • Services include Primary Care, Dental, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Chiropractic, Optometry, Acupuncture, Substance Use Disorder, Lab Services, Covid-19 Vaccines and Testing, Rapid HIV Testing, HIV Care and Treatment, Transportation, and After-Hours Care
  • Centrally located in Los Angles
  • The organization is a Joint Commission accredited Primary Care Medical Home as well as a “deemed” health center with respect to health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals

Benefits and Features

  • Competitive compensation with excellent benefits including 97% employer-paid healthcare, 8 weeks of PTO, and a consistent track record of providing annual cost of living adjustments
  • The organization is in a strong financial position while still being small enough to be nimble without the “red tape” often found in larger health systems
  • Turnover is extremely low at 10%. You’ll work for an organization that truly values its employees and focuses on creating a productive and healthy culture. The organization provides excellent work-life balance and goes the extra mile for employees including a weekly catered lunch and as much coffee as you can drink! Quarterly all staff meetings bring everyone together and annual compliance training equips team members to be the best they can be for patients (the last event was held at Dodgers Stadium). There were ZERO layoffs during the pandemic which is a testament to the organization’s resilience and commitment to its valued employees
  • Take your time to get to know the team and organization. This is not a role where immediate deliverables are expected. Rather, the CEO encourages a thorough process of assessment and assimilation to build relationships and trust before executing on improvement opportunities in a planful manner
  • As COO, you’ll be a valued member of a seasoned and stable group of healthcare professionals. The average length of employment among the executive team members is 10 years!
  • Opportunity to receive excellent coaching and mentorship as the “right-hand” to the CEO. You’ll have a seat at the executive table along with six other executives. The CEO values relationships and is not a micromanager. You’ll be provided with the coaching, tools, and resources to be successful
  • Organization has a solid IT infrastructure and is well established on their EHR (eClinicalWorks) which they implemented in 2011. A Strong CIO will be an asset to the COO
  • Play a key role in strategic initiatives including rolling out 340b pharmacy, service line development, and other operational initiatives such as improving patient wait times and optimization of workflows and processes with the goal of providing the best care possible to those who need it the most
  • Mission driven organization that firmly believes healthcare should be a human right and not a privilege for the wealthy. You’ll get to work shoulder to shoulder with other team members who are dedicated to living out this mission
  • Centrally located in Los Angles. You’ll have your own office in a safe workplace environment with gated parking and staffed with private security

Background Profile

  • Prior healthcare experience is required
  • Experience working for an organization that provides care to underserved patient populations is beneficial
  • Preference for multi-location operations experience at manager or director level (such as Director of Operations, Senior Clinic Manager, etc.)
  • Knowledge and expertise in patient services, call center, referrals, and medical records will prove valuable in leading a team of 40 direct/indirect reports
  • Bachelors/Masters is valued, but the organization will consider relevant experience in lieu of degrees
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to earn trust and garner buy-in and support from subordinates and executive leadership
  • Humble and approachable attitude, a team player
  • Ability to provide hands-on training and coaching to staff at all levels of the organization
